The MPPP full Council meeting of 14 minutes yesterday is an improvement on its four-minute meeting a fortnight earlier on March 12, as the 14-minute MPPP Council meeting is still a scandal but on a smaller scale than the scandal of the four -minute MPPP full Council meeting. DAP calls on the Public Services Department to revise its Sistem Saraan Baru (SSB) for the police force commensurate with other services as the SSB proposals have created widespread dissatisfaction and lowered the morale of all police ranks.

Can National Registration Department give an assurance that no blue identity-card holder applying for new identity card would be threatened with loss of citizenship because of spelling or clerical errors in old documents?

Can National Registration Department give an assurance that no blue identity-card holder applying for new identity card would be threatened with loss of citizenship because of spelling or clerical errors in old documents?

The National Registration Department’s Public Relations Officer, Rossilawati Alias, said yesterday that there has been no case of any person who had lost his citizenship when applying for new identity card, or having the blue identity card changed into red identity card. The Education Minister, Datuk Dr. Sulaiman Daud, said that over 1,000 students have asked the Education Ministry to reassess their Bahasa Malaysia paper in last year’s SPM examination. Kit Siang asks Tan Ghim Hwa to state before the MPPP Council meeting on Thursday whether Gerakan would support the DAP in parliament to amend Section 23 of the Local Government Act.

MPPP President, Tan Ghim Hwa, challenged me last Wednesday to have the Local Government Act amended, in Parliament to open all local authorities’ committee meetings to the public. Call on Cabinet to issue a directive that all blue identity card holders will be issued with new identity cards without threat of being turned into red identity card holders because of spelling or clerical errors in old documents.

The application for the new identity cards has turned into a nightmare for many Malaysians, who are threatened with the loss of their citizenship status because of some spelling or clerical errors in some old documents which go back many decades or which belong to their parents. DAP calls on Malaysian Government not to boycott the Earth Summit in Brazil in June but to fully participate in the last world conference in this century on environment and sustainable development.

In August last year, the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, declared that Malaysia might boycott the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) or Earth Summit in Brazil in June this year.
