The Deputy Home Minister, Datuk Megat Junid Megat Ayob, said on Sunday that local governments should allow the use of Chinese language on advertisements and signboards and should not abuse their powers to obstruct or destroy any one’s rights to use other languages apart from the National Language on advertisements and signboards. The MCA and Gerakan Ministers must give satisfactory explanation why they are opposed to the new Education Bill being made public so that Malaysians have ample time of at least two months to study it before a Parliamentary debate and voting.

The MCA and Gerakan leaders have been assuring Malaysian’s and in particular the Chinese community, that they have nothing to fear or worry about the new Education Bill. I will consider moving a substantive motion in Parliament against the Lord President, Tun Hamid if he wants every lawyer appearing before him to declare confidence in him and to accept the propriety and legality of the dismissal of Tun Salleh Abas

I will consider moving a substantive motion in Parliament against the Lord President, Tun Hamid if he wants every lawyer appearing before him to declare confidence in him and to accept the propriety and legality of the dismissal of Tun Salleh Abas.

Tun Hamid seems to be heading towards this direction, in wanting lawyers to directly or indirectly to declare their confidence in him and to declare their stand on the propriety and legality of the dismissal of Tun Salleh Abas as Lord President. DAP calls for a Royal Commission of Inquiry to restore the Independence of the Judiciary and to end the Bar-Government stalemate arising from the 1988 judicial crisis following the arbitrary expulsion of Tun Salleh Abas and two Supreme Court judges.

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, had for the second day in succession spearheaded the Government attack on the Bar Council for its overwhelming AGM decision on Saturday retaining its 1988 ‘no-confidence’ motion on the Lord President, Tun Hamid Omar. The Foreign Investment Committee’s proposed new guidelines to regulate, foreign and local investments had not only caused the Malaysian stock exchange to nosedive in the first two weeks of March, but created uncertainty and anxiety among both foreign and local investors which could greatly dampen the investment climate in the country

The Foreign Investment Committee’s proposed new guidelines to regulate, foreign and local investments had not only caused the Malaysian stock exchange to nosedive in the first two weeks of March, but created uncertainty and anxiety among both foreign and local investors which could greatly dampen the investment climate in the country.

Even more serious, the proposed new guidelines of the Foreign Investment Committee (FIC) has raised the fundamental question as to whether it is the National Development Policy (NDP) adopted by Parliament in June last year or the Third Bumiputra Economic Congress resolutions and working papers which is the highest national policy in the country. Call on Tun Hamid to retire from the Judiciary to end the stalemate created by the 1988 Judicial Crisis to arbitrarily remove Tun Salleh Abbas as Lord President.

The four-hour Bar Council AGM yesterday rejected by an overwhelmingly decisive vote of 809 to 52 a motion to ‘acknowledge and recognise’ the position of Tun Hamid as Lord President. This in effect means the retention of the Bar Council AGM’s no-confidence motion on Tun Hamid as Lord President adopted in 1988.
