DAP is prepared to form a joint legal panel with MCA and Gerakan to sue Kelantan State Government for illegal and unconstitutional acquisition of Tanah Putih land under Land Acquisition Act without compensation

DAP is prepared to form a joint legal panel with MCA and Gerakan to sue Kelantan State Government for illegal and unconstitutional acquisition of Tanah Putih land under Land Acquisition Act without compensation

My invitation to the MCA President, Datuk Dr. Ling Liong Sik and the Gerakan President, Datuk Dr. Lim Keng Yaik to jointly visit Gua Musang with me tomorrow at 3 p.m. to meet and understand the land problems of the Tanah Putih farmers still stands, and I hope that they will make the special trip to Gua Musang tomorrow. The 11-day delay in the gazetting of the certified 1994 electoral roll by the Election Commission has again highlighted the unsatisfactory nature in the preparation of the electoral roll and thrown into question the reliability of the electoral roll to be used in the next general elections. DAP calls on the Election Commission to give full particulars on the ‘extra’ 4,500 voters in Kelantan which has caused the Election Commission to further delay the gazetting of the new electoral roll. The problem of the Tanah Putih, Gua Musang farmers illegally occupying state land is not a ‘party political’ issue, nor an issue which is confined to Gua Musang, but a national issue which concerns social justice, the right to livelihood of Malaysians and how to strike a fairer and just balance between the needs of the landless to have land to farm and state ownership of land.
