Malaysia is teetering on the edge of a racial volcano and all political leaders must stop incitement of racial hatred and illwill to prevent an explosion which must occur if the present trend is not stopped

Malaysia is teetering on the edge of a racial volcano and all political leaders must stop incitement of racial hatred and ill will to prevent an explosion which must occur if the present trend is not stopped.

Firstly, I commend the Deputy Home Minister, Megat Junid Megat Ayob, for making a Ministerial statement setting out all available facts with regard to the Chow Kit shooting spree, which killed one and wounded two, and the manhunt for the culprit which is still in progress. DAP proposes that National Trust Fund Bill he referred to Select Committee

Speech by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Tanjung, Lim Kit Siang, in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday, 19.10.1987 referring the National Trust Fund Bill to Select Committee and on the 16 amendments proposed by DAP MPs to the Bill in Committee Stage.

DAP proposes that National Trust Fund Bill he referred to Select Committee as government has not convinced MPs, both Opposition as well as Barisan Nasional, that there could not be massive abuses, breach of trust or corruption as happened in Maminco, EPF-Makuwasa, UMBC, BMF and North-South Highway scandals in the administration of the National Trust Fund which will be a multi-billion dollar Trust Fund.

Statement by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Tanjung, Lim Kit Siang, at Masjid Tanah, Malacca, at the first stop in tour of Chinese primary schools affected by promotion exercise of non-Chinese educated teachers conducting a three-day schools boycott, on Thursday, 15.10.1987 at 7.30 a.m.

DAP proposes amendment to the 1961 Education Act to give Board of Management the right to object to promotions and transfers of teachers which would affect the character of Chinese primary school as an effective solution to the present educational crisis.

The national educational crisis marked by a three0day school boycott of 46 Chinese primary schools in Malacca, Penang, Selangor and Federal Territory should be seriously dealt with by the Barisan Nasional Government, if the country’s economic recovery efforts are not to be derailed by insensitive government actions in the other fields of language, education, culture and religion. At the Tien Hou Temple Chinese organisations/ political parties mass protest meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday against the promotion of non-Chinese educated teachers assistant headmasters and senior assistants of Chinese primary schools, I suggested that the leaders of the three parties, in particular Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, MPs and Assemblymen, of MCA, Gerakan and DAP, should visit all the affected schools on boycott to give support and be in the forefront of the protest. Parti Gerakan President Datuk Dr. Lim Keng Yaik said in Kota Kinabalu yesterday that the Chinese primary schools promotion issue had been blown out of proportion by the MCA and DAP. He said there should be no problem as the matter had been resolved during a Carbinet meeting four week ago.
