The MCA and Gerakan ministers have disappointed the people; in particular the Malaysian Chinese whom they claim to represent, by their cowardly and evasive attitude where they dare not even say a word about the Singapore speech of UMNO Mp for Kok Lanas, Datuk Abdullah Ahmad, in the Cabinet yesterday. I am very disappointed by the belated reaction of the Minister for Public Enterprises, Datin Paduka Rafidah Aziz, on the LPN mess in Kedah and perils where because of its bufigle, inefficiency and incompetence, the padi farmers in Kedah and Perlis face the prospect of losing $25 million in the present padi harvest. DAP MPs and Assemblymen is each State should form a special team to make special visits to rural areas to understand and espouse the problems, aspirations and grievances of the Malay poor in the rural areas.

In the 1986 General Elections , the DAP has emerged as the sole Opposition in seven State assemblies, namely Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Malacca, Pahang and Johore, and the virtual Opposition in Parliament, except for the single PAS MP. Call on Government to give an assurance that it would not proceed with its proposal to amend the Official Secrets Act to impose amendatory one-year jail sentence for all offences under the Act when Parliament re-opens in October.

I find the National Day message of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Mahathir Mohamed, disturbing in many respects.

For instance, Dr. Mahathir had said that Malaysians must not use the freedom of the press, “supposedly to exist in the West, to assess our mass media”. I find the interview given by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, to the Mingguan Malaysia yesterday was shocking and regrettable., for its presents the picture of a Prime Minister who is not prepared to open up and understand and the legitimate aspiration of a new generation of Malaysians.
