DAP announces official general elections campaign theme as ‘Deny Barisan Nasional Two-Thirds Majority’
In the final days of the Dewan Rakyat two weeks ago, there was a rumour that over a hundred Barisan Nasional Assemblymen were going to resign en bloc to force the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, to hold general elections.

I did not give credence to such a rumour, for such an event was unthinkable, although it reflected the strain on Barisan Nasional component parties caused by the uncertainty and suspension as to when the general elections would be held. Last week, UMNO National Vice President and Barisan Nasional scretarygeneral, Ghaffar Baba, told Barisan Nasional component parties to campaign for the general elections immediately as the three week period between dissolution of Parliament and Polling would be reduced from dissolution of Parliament and Polling would be reduced from three weeks to two weeks. The Sabah Commissioner of Police, Haji Ahmad Maulana Babjee, was reported today as having told a PBS Youth delegation that the police had not yet investigated the involvement of political leaders of the recent illegal demonstrations in Sabah because of a shortage of manpower.
