I propose to visit China this year and will write to Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed for government clearance.

Although Malaysia and China established diplomatic relations ten years ago, Malaysian government leaders and strategists are still guided by the doctrine that it is China, and not Soviet Union, which is more of a military threat in South East Asia. Recently, the Chinese press have been abuzz with reports about the 2 ‘merger’ possibility between the MCA and Gerakan, the proposed ‘Joint Council’ of MCA, Gerakan and SUPP’, giving the Chinese the impression that these are the latest magic formulas for the salvation of Chinese rights and interests in Malaysia. After the meeting of the Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce delegation and the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, over the Mandarin oranges bungle yesterday, the Deputy Finance Minister, Datuk Dr. Tan Tiong Hong, said that the Swatow Mandarin oranges bungle was created by the ‘adminstrative deivation’ of a few officials. DAP calls for a more meaningful celebration of the 25th anniversary of Malaysian Parliament which should aim at restoring to Parliament to its rightful political role.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, has announced that the Cabinet has decided that there should be a I celebration
to mark the 25th anniversary of Parliament, and a celebrations committee comprising government officials had been formed, There would be an exhibition at the end of next month on 25 years of Parliament, and essay competitions in schools would be held.
