DAP commends the Cabinet for reversing its earlier decision in making public the latest report of the Ahmad Nordin BMF Inquiry Committee.

For the first time since the $2.5 billion Bumiputra Malaysia Finance (BMF) loans scandal, I want to commend the cabinet for taking the right decision yesterday in making public the latest report of the Ahmad Nordin BMF Inquiry Committee Report, which is of the opinion that prima facie cases of corruption exist against the three original BMF Board members, Lorrain Esme Usman, Datuk Hashim Shamsuddin and Dr. Rais Saniman, and three former senior BMF officials, Ibrahim Jaafar, Henry Chin and Eric Chow. DAP welcomes a new Board for Bank Bumiputera and express full support for its ‘cleaning up’ operation

Press Conference Statement (2) by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Kota Melaka, Lim Kit Siang, in Malacca on Tuesday, 2.1..l985.

One – DAP welcomes a new Board for Bank Bumiputera and express full support for its ‘cleaning up’ operation. The DAP welcomes the appointment of a new Board for Bank Bumiputera which should have been done in 1983. As Petronas Adviser and former Prime Minister, Tun Hussein Onn, had said, “there would be a lot of cleaning up to be done“ by the new Board, the new Board directors could be assured of the fullest support by the people and the DAP in the ‘cleaning up’ operation.

Regardless of the outcome of the test case filed by DAP legal adviser , K.C. Cheah, to challenge the legality of the Petronas takeover of Bank Bumiputera, Bank Bumiputera would continue as the major banking institution in the country with government backing, and as such, the need for a new set of Board of Directors to regain public confidence is imperative. Cabinet decision not to release second and third reports of Ahmad Nordin BMF Inquiry Committee tantamounts to breach of Prime Minister’s promise that there would be no curbs on the BMF probe

Press Conference Statement by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Kota Melaka, Lim Kit Siang, at DAP PJ Headquarters on Thursday, Dec. 13, 1984 at 12 noon

Cabinet decision not to release second and third reports of Ahmad Nordin BMF Inquiry Committee tantamounts to breach of Prime Minister’s promise that there would be no curbs on the BMF probe

The rating of the two post-Cabinet meeting announcements by the Acting Prime Minister Datuk Musa Hitam yesterday is one plus and one minus – plus for the Papan announcement that he will personally try to resolve the radioactive waste dump issue; while a minus for the BMF denial that there is a second and third reports of the BMF Inquiry Committee which tantamounts to breaches of the promise given by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed that there would be no curbs on the BMF probe by the Ahmad Nordin Inquiry Committee. Speech by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Kota Melaka, Lim Kit Siang, to the Pahang DAP State Committee and Pahang DAP Branch leaders in Kuantan on Thursday, 13.12.1984 at 8 p.m.

Two special reasons why the Government should give serious consideration to Tun Hussein Onn’s call for Royal Commission of Inquiry into BMF loans scandal

The announcement by Acting Prime Minister, Datuk Musa Hitam, after Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting that the government would not recognise the existence of second, third or subsequent reports of the BMF Inquiry Committee for as far as it was concerned, there would only be an interim and a final report on BMF seemed to be an indirect dismissal of the call by the former Prime Minister Tun Hussein Onn for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the BMF loans scandal, only the day before. BMF Scandal – Token Prosecution and Punishments

At a time of economic stringency, the government should have kept within its operating and development budgets, instead of coming to Parliament in asking for additional allocation of funds.

What is being asked is not a small sum of money either, as the total sum for the 1983 and 1984 supplementary operating and development votes come to $2.4 billion.

Challenge to Attorney-General, Tan Sri Abu Talib, to refer the Harris Salleh case to court for ruling as to whether the latter had violated Article 6(5) of Sabah Constitution

I am surprised and even shocked by the ruling of the Attorney-General, Tan Sri Abu Talib Othman, that Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Harris Salleh, had not breached the Sabah State Constitution by remaining as a director of three companies.
