Political Declaration by Chinese organisations must not have ulterior political motives or orchestrated by unseen political hands if it is not to lose its impact, meaning and purpose.

With the approach of general elections, expected to be held any time from December 1985 to April 1986, it is natural for the mushrooming of political or political-related activities whether by political or non-political organisations. I expect the next general elections to be held in six months’ time. It is not only the DAP but the Malaysian people as well, who must prepare for the next general elections because of the critical importance it would have for the future of the country, our children and children’s children. The extension of the restrictions on ceramahs and closed door political meeting from Kedah and Perlis to Kelantan and Terengganu, and the threat by the Deputy Ministry for the Home Affairs, Encik Radzi Sheikh Ahmad, of its extension to all the others states, is a highly ominous development and the latest onslaught on the limited democratic freedoms in the country.
