The Chinese community and all concerned about mother-tongue education must be vigilant to ensure that the current furore over the Barisan Nasional’s proposal to abolish the Boards of Management of 432 ‘fully-aided’ Chinese primary schools is not a smokescreen to hide other provisions in the 1990 Education Bill which highly detrimental to Chinese education. I have today sent a fax to the Education Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, asking for an immediate and urgent briefing for DAP MPs on the 1990 Education Bill, which is to be tabled and rushed through Parliament next month. All DAP Mps will vote against the 1990 Education Bill if MPs and the public are not given adequate time to study and debate the various changes to the education system and law

Although MPs have been officially informed by Parliament that the Dewan Rakyat would meet from June 11 and 22, and the Education Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, said that the new 1990 education Bill would be tabled in next month’s Parliament for passage, the MPs have not received anything in writing with regard to the new changes to the education system and law.
