DAP calls for review of Standard V Assessment Examination 1971

DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, today issued the following statement.

DAP calls for review of Standard V Assessment Examination 1971 to find out why there are such a high percentage of failures among national primary school students in science and mathematics despite Government’s emphasis on these subjects.

The mass failure of Standard V students in last year’s Assessment Examination is indeed unbelievable, as they hit all language-stream primary schools.

Mass failure in Tamil primary schools

The mis-education and mal-education of Malaysian students: Mass failure in Tamil primary schools

In the last two days, I had given the details of the mass failures during last year’s Standard V Assessment Test in Perak’s national primary schools, national-type (Chinese) primary schools, throughout the country, and Perak’s national-type (English) primary school.

DAP calls on Chinese educational bodies to launch a nation-wide inquiry into the reasons for the mass failures in Chinese primary schools during last year’s Standard V Assessment Test

I am glad that the President of the Chinese Teachers’ Federation, Mr. Sim Moh Yu, in his speech to the National Chinese School B category Teachers’ General Meeting over the weekend, has expressed deep concern at the shockingly high percentage of failures among Chinese primary school students in last year’s Standard V Assessment Examination. DAP calls for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into standards of Inquiry into standards of education of 1.7 million primary and secondary students in Malaysia.

Over the years, under the Alliance education system, the standard of education in Malaysia has deteriorated gravely. In almost every town, we find Form III students who cannot even make a proper sentence, whether in English or Bahasa Malaysia. The Nantah Alumni Association, the Perak Nantah Alumni Association and the Penang Nantah Alumni Association have jointly sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister, copies to all Members of Parliament, urging the immediate recognition of Nanyang University degrees by the Government.
