The Tanah Putih land issue in Gua Musang is not only an eye-opener to MCA members that their interests can be sacrificed by the MCA national leaders, but also a lesson to the people as to the lies that the MCA leadership could concoct against the DAP because of the coming general elections. The Prime Minister, Datuk Sen Dr. Mahathir Mohamed yesterday thanked the Election Commission for rectifying the 4,500 names of Kelantan voters omitted from the roll, causing a delay in the gazetting of the new 1994 electoral roll which is now fixed for tomorrow. DAP suspends plan to make representation with the Kelantan State Government on the socio-economic rights of Tanah Putih farmers on their land problem to allow the MCA national leadership to champion the legal rights and status of the Tanah Putih farmers

I am shocked that after the visit of DAP leaders to Tanah Putih, Gua Musang on Sunday, the MCA national leadership through its MCA National Publicity Bureau has again attacked the DAP on the Tanah Putih land issue and maintain that the Tanah Putih farmers have legal rights to their land. The latest statement by the MCA National Publicity Bureau is a desperate attempt by the MCA national leadership to redeem its reputation after it had committed the ‘biggest political blunder in 1995’ in unable to produce proof to substantiate the MCA allegation that the Kelantan State Government had acquired 1,000 acres of 500 Chinese smallholders at Tanah Putih, Gua Musang under the Land Acquisition Act without compensation.
