Gerakan President, Datuk Dr. Lim Keng Yaik, Penang Chief Minister, Dr. Koh Tsu Koon and the MPPP President, Datuk Tan Gim Hwa, dared not turn up at the Penang Chinese Town Hall last night to accept the DAP challenge to a Public Debate on the Hotel Metropole, Taman Midlands, Relau Indoor Stadium and other MPPP scandals. I commend former judge Tan Sri Datuk Chang Min Tat for his letter to a local newspaper complaining about the treatment he received from the Penang JPJ when he went to renew his driving licence in December 1993. First of all , I wish to deplore the ‘dirty trick ‘ of the MPPP in locking out the Pulau Tikus residents affected by the Taman Midlands ‘one stop centre ‘ project from the Balai Rakyat Pulau Tikus last night and the sabotage of the meeting of the residents. Both the penang Chief Minister Dr. Koh tsu Koon and the MPPP President Datuk Tan Gim Hwa seem to be acting in concert in wanting to give the people the impression that the demolition of Hotel Metropole is not so serious , outrageous and scandalous in view of the two earlier cases of demolition of heritage buildings in George Town.
