If Dr. Koh Tsu Koon and Goik Hock Lai knew nothing about the forfeiture of Bukit Mertajam Hock Teng Cheng temple land until six weeks after the decision, who is really running the Penang State Government?

The political secretary to the Penang Chief Minister, Goik Hock Lai, wants the people of Bukit Mertajam and Penang to believe that both he and Dr. Koh Tsu Koon knew nothing about the forfeiture of Bukit Mertajam Hock Teng Cheng temple land until August 7 – six weeks after the decision to forfeit made on June 22 and one month after the gazette notification of the forfeiture on July 8. Is Tsu Koon suggesting that all religious and civic bodies in Penang do not have to pay their quit rent arrears and should petition to State Government to forfeit their land so as to re-alienate back to them free of the quit rent arrears debt?

Is Tsu Koon suggesting that all religious and civic bodies in Penang do not have to pay their quit rent arrears and should petition to State Government to forfeit their land so as to re-alienate back to them free of the quit rent arrears debt?

I welcome the statement by the Penang Chief Minister, Dr. Koh Tsu Koon that the State Government would not ‘forfeit’ the land of lawful religious and civic organisations, and that even if land forfeiture should occur, this is merely a procedural matter and eventually the land would be returned to the original owners. The Penang Chief Minister, Dr Koh Tsu Koon, through his political secretary, Goik Hock Lai, had said that the Penang State Government would “as fast as possible through normal administrative procedures return the forfeited land of Bukit Mertajam Hock Teck Cheng God to the Management Committee”.
