The Fourth Malaysia Plan

(Speech by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Petaling, Lim Kit Siang, when speaking on the Fourth Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday, 30th March 1981)

The success of Fourth Malaysia Plan will depend on whether it could inspire and commit the energies, talents and resource of all Malaysians, regardless of race, to the challenge of building a united, peaceful, just and prosperous Malaysia

The Puchong mind landslide

(Speech by the Parliamentary Leader, DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Petaling, Lim Kit Siang, in the Dewan Rakyat on March 26, 1981 when adjourning the Dewan Rakyat on ‘a matter of urgent, definite, public importance’ ie to debate the Kampong Kandan Mining landslide disaster where 20 people were buried alive and about 75 houses destroyed)

I stand up to move the adjournment of the House to discuss a matter of definite, urgent, public importance, namely the mining landslide disaster at Kampong Kandan at 8½ mile, Jalan Puchong, Kuala Lumpur, where at least 20 people, including children, have been buried alive together with the collapse of about 10 houses, involving the destruction of a further 65 houses in the adjoining areas, making it one of the worst mining disaster in the country.

The Kampong Kandan mining disaster is not a natural disaster, but a man-made disaster. It is apparent that there has been negligence in many quarters involving the mining company, Capitol Mining Sdn. Party can nationally begin the process of party development and expansion with the expulsion of the ‘Gang of Four’

Party can nationally begin the process of party development and expansion with the expulsion of the ‘Gang of Four’
For the last five months, the Party’s various political and party programmes, involving organizational, publicity and political initiatives, were stalled because of the destructive activities of the ‘Gang of Four’.

Now that the ‘Gang of Four’ headed by Chan Teck Chan had been publicly exposed and expelled from the Party, the Party can get down to our central political tasks of consolidating and expanding party activities, to build ourselves into an even greater political force. Press Conference Statement by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Petaling, Lim Kit Siang, in Penang on Tuesday, 10th March 1981 at 11.30 a.m.

DAP CEC has not commissioned or authorised anyone to ‘mediate’ or ‘settle the matter of the expulsion of the Gang of Three in Penang as there is nothing to mediate or settle with regard to flagrant and systematic flouting of party discipline.

The lifting of the suspension of the Bagan Ajam and Telok Bahang Branch, following that of Bukit Mertajam and Paya Terubong Branches, mark yet another step in the restoration of party discipline and cohesive in Penang, to rebuild the DAP into an effective and powerful political force in the state.
