The DAP welcome the release of DAP MPs, Chian Heng Kai (Batu Gajah and Assemblyman for Pasir Puteh), DAP National Publicity Secretary, and Chan Kok Kit (Sungai Besi), DAP Deputy National Treasurer, and the release of other 19 ISA detainees, including PSRN President, Kassim Ahmad, and former Deputy Minister, Datuk Abdullah Ahamd. Call on new Education Minister, Dr. Sulaiman Daud, to exert pressure on the British government to reduce fees for Malaysian student studying in the United Kingdom.

Call on new Education Minister, Dr. Sulaiman Daud, to exert pressure on the British government to reduce fees for Malaysian student studying in the United Kingdom.

The drastic increase of school fees for overseas students in the United Kingdom has gravely hit Malaysian student in UK. This is a short-sighted British policy, which will do great harm to the continued close relationship between the two countries and damage the cultural ties established between Britishers and Malaysians because of educational facilities in the UK. Accompanied by the DAP MP for Bruas, Sdr. Ting Chek Ming , and representatives of si fishermen from Pantai Remis and Bagan Pancut, I met the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Tan Sri Arshad Ayub, the Deputy SG, the Director of Fisheries, and other officials at Wisma Tani for an hour this morning over the problems faced by the trawler fishermen in Pantai Remis and the Dindings area because of the new Fisheries Regulations. Malaysia is facing a very tight money market situation, and businessmen, in particular the small-timers, are finding it very difficult to do business. Money appears to have disappeared, and everyone complains that it is difficult and almost impossible to call in the debts. Businessmen from all walks of life complain of a sharp drop in business, some as sharp as 50% drop. The human rights record of Malaysia is not a good one, and in fact, the Malaysian government engages in a running battle with the Nobel-peace Prize human right organisation, Amnesty International, over the human rights position in the country.
