DAP deplores the off-handed rejection of the National Culture Memorandum of the 15 Chinese national organizations of March by the Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports even without consideration by the Cabinet.

The DAP deplores the off-handed rejection of the Memorandum on National Culture adopted by 15 Chinese national organizations, including the Tung/ Chiau, Chung, in Penang in March by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Encik Anwar Ibrahim, even without consideration by the Cabinet, on the ground that the memorandum’s policy proposals on the basic of Malaysian culture violate and contradict the National Culture Policy of the government. DAP proposes that the Public Accounts Committee inquire into the billion dollar Bumiputera Malaysia Finance loan scandal in Hong Kong, and report to Parliament.

DAP proposes that the Public Accounts Committee inquire into the billion dollar Bumiputera Malaysia Finance loan scandal in Hong Kong, and report to Parliament.

The Prime Minister has moved this motion to asks the House to appoint Y.B. Tuan Daud bin Dato’ Haji Taha as the Chairman and Y.B. Tuan Lim Liang Seng as Vice Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee for the rest of the Parliamentary session, following the appointment of the previous Chairman Tuan Y.B. Oo Gin Sun, as Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry. It is most shocking to read the comments of the Minister of Land and Regional Development, Datuk Rais Yatim, on the Selancar Empat scandal when he said that his ministry was inclined to accept the version of the Pahang CPO, SAC Mohamed Noor Khamis, that police investigations showed that there has been no criminal offences comitted and allegations of wrongful confinement, illegal detention, forced labour and criminal assault of workers at Selancar Empat were untrue. We read in the press that in Singapore, the monetary authorities are petitioning the High Court to wind up a Finance Company, the Overseas Union Finance Company, because its major shareholder and former managing director, Seah Say Yoong, had been convicted of an offence for authorizing an unsecured loan of $720,000 to the estate of his late brother. Although this led to a run on the Finance Company, the OUF’ had total assets of $60 million to meet the $30 million owed depositors.
