Call on Malaysians of all races to respond to the Save Sim Kie Chon signature campaign in the way the people responded to the DAP’s Save l3-condemned signature campaign in 1968

Press Conference Statement by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Kota Melaka, Lim Kit Siang, in Ipoh on Sunday, July 28, 1985.

Call on Malaysians of all races to respond to the Save Sim Kie Chon signature campaign in the way the people responded to the DAP’s Save l3-condemned signature campaign in 1968.

I come to Ipoh today to understand the latest developments in the Kampong Pisang issue; where over 2,000 people who had been staying in the area for over three generations, face the bleak prospect of eviction from their homes, workshops, foundries, losing not only their roof but also their rice-bowls; with the makings of another blow-up as in Kampong Bercham or even Thean Teik estate in Penang. DAP launches Save Sim Kie Chon Campaign, headed by Sdr. Lee Lam Thye, with first activity a nation-wide signature campaign

Press Conference Statement by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Kota Melaka, Lim Kit Siang, in Petaling Jaya on Saturday July 27, 1985:

DAP launches Save Sim Kie Chon Campaign, headed by Sdr. Lee Lam Thye, with first activity a nation-wide signature campaign

The DAP has decide to launch a nation-wide Save Sim Kie Chon Campaign, as we believe that it will be manifestly unfair and unjust for Sim Kie Chon to be executed in violation of Article 8 of the Malaysian Constitution which guarantees equality of persons before the law. If ex-Cabinet Minister, Mochtar Hashim, who was convicted of a more serious offence than Sim Kie Chon as he had discharged a firearm and killed the Negeri Sembilan State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Taha, could have his death penalty commuted to life imprisonment, why shouldn’t Sim Kie Chon be spared his life when his offence is very much lighter? Call for a joint committee comprising members of the bench and bar to inquire into the fracas between the Chief Justice and lawyer Karam Singh

The Malaysian people must be very concerned by the fracas between the Chief Justice, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Omar, and lawyer Karam Singh, as to whether Karam Singh had been ‘rushed’ into filling the record of appeal to save the life of Death Row condemned, Sim Kie Chon, 28, in three days when he had six weeks to do so under the Rules of the Supreme Court, 1980. The latest campaign to character-assassinate me is now in full swing

Speech by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-general and Mp for Kota Melaka, Lim Kit Siang, at the Malacca Dap Three-Thousand People Anniversary Dinner held at Pay Fong Chinese Secondary School on Sunday, 21.7.1985 at 8 pm.

The latest campaign to character-assassinate me is now in full swing. Before every general elections, there would be a campaign to try to destroy the DAP to undermine its election chances, either by formenting party disunity or by trying to destroy the image, reputation and credibility of DAP leaders.

Before the 1978 general elections, I was accused of being a Special Branch agent. The tactics changed before the 1982 general elections, when I was accused in a systematic campaign of being a KGB agent as well as a ‘killer’ of the Chinese educated, to the extent of being condemned as not being fit to be Chinese – ‘that I did not possess the blood of the descendents of Huang Ti’ Continue reading The latest campaign to character-assassinate me is now in full swing

Call on Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Datuk Mahathir Mohamed, to direct the Barisan Nasional MPs to act responsibly to uphold the dignity of Parliament

Press Statement by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Kota Melaka, Lim Kit Slang, in Petaling Jaya on Friday, 19th July l985:

Call on Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Datuk Mahathir Mohamed, to direct the Barisan Nasional MPs to act responsibly to uphold the dignity of Parliament.

The Dewan Rakyat spent over one day to debate the one-paragraph amendment to the Federal Roads (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday and Thursday, with, Barisan Nasional MPs clearly wasting away Parliamentary time with irrelevancies with one common objective:
to deny my motion calling for a Parliamentary Select Committee on New Economic Policy inequalities and injustices as a preparation for the Fifth Malaysia Plan formulation from having time for debate.
