Letter to Mahathir for government agreement for debate on DAP motion to accept PAC Report
I have written to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, asking for government agreement for a parliamentary debate today on the DAP motion to accept the report presented by the Parliamentary Accounts Committee on Monday on the Bukit Kiara Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club scandal and Bank Negara’s RM16 billion foreign exchange losses last year.
The PAC is an important parliamentary watchdog on public finances and a motion and debate on the report submitted by the PAC would demonstrate that its work and recommendations are taken seriously both by Parliament and the Government.
My motion reads:
“BAHAWA Penyata Jawatankuasa Kira-Kira Wang Negara mengenai Laporan Ketua Audit Negara ke atas Penyata Kira-Kira Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur bagi tahun 1989 dan Kerugian Forex Bank Negara Malaysia pada Tahun 1992 diterima; dan
“MENGARAH Jawatankuasa Kira-Kira Wang Negara supaya memeriksa semula Bank Negara Malaysia khasnya Gabenor Bank Negara Malaysia agar Jawatankuasa Kira-Kira Wang Negara dapat membentangkan satu laporan kepada Dewan yang mulia ini yang dapat memberi satu penerangan yang lebih memuaskan mengenai kerugian Forex Bank Negara Malaysia pada tahun 1992 serta juga menentukan kedudukan ‘contingency liabilities’ sebanyak RM2.7 billion yang diperuntukkan dalam Laporan Bank Negara untuk tahun 1992, dan mengemukakan laporannya dalam mesyuarat Dewan Rakyat yang akan datang.”
