As expected, the Barisan Nasional parties have politically orchestrated a mass media attack on the DAP and in particular DAP Assemblyman for Glugor, Karpal Singh, because of the Penang Assembly uproar last Monday where four DAP Assembly were suspended from the Assembly. DAP opposes the transfer of the Section 21(2) powers from the Education Minister to the Registrar-General of Schools who would have the power under the new Education Act to close down Chinese primary Schools

It was reported in today’s press that the Education Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, had briefed headmasters and teachers that although Section 21(2) would be repealed, this would not mean a reduction in the powers of the Education Minister, as under the Education Bill 1990, the Registrar-General of Schools would have the power to close down schools which are against the national interest’. I have just been informed by my lawyer, Karpal Singh, that the lawyers of the Gerakan President and Primary Industry Minister, Datuk Dr. Lim Keng Yaik, have written to threaten action by eng Yaik if the ‘Keng Yaik – You Are A Liar’ posters are not taken down in Penang and Kuala Lumpur. Anwar Ibrahim’s statement today contradicts Keng Yaik’s claim that the Cabinet Committee has decided that the Boards of Management of Chinese primary schools would be preserved.

The statement by the Education Minister, Anwar Ibrahim (New Straits Times 8/6/90 p.2) contradicts the claim by the Gerakan President, Datuk Dr. Lim Keng Yaik, on Tuesday that the Cabinet Committee on the Education Bill had agreed to preserve the Boards of Management of Chinese primary schools and which was given front page headline treatment by all Chinese newspapers. DAP praises MCA Presidential Council for vetoing the MCA booklet ‘The Truth is Out’ on the KSM-MPHB Investment Fund scandal, for it would be more appropriately entitled ‘The Lies are Out’

I commend the MCA Presidential Council for again overruling the MCA President, Datuk Dr. Limg Liong Sik, by vetoing the release of the 50,000 copies of the MCA booklet, ‘The Truth is Out’, prepared by the MCA Central Publicity Bureau purportedly to justify Liong Sik’s stand on the KSM-MPHB Investment Fund scandal.
