I refer to today’s Star which carried my response to your column of 29th March

31st March 1990
Mr.V.K. Chin,
Group Editor-in-Chief,

Star,

Sir,

I refer to today’s Star which carried my response to your column of 29th March, as well as your “Reply by V.K.Chin” on the MCA Headquarters meeting between MCA president, Datuk Dr.Ling Liong Sik, and myself last Tuesday.

Firstly, I note that my reply had been terribly slashed and sanitized, in your ‘Reply’ you hoped that the DAP does not think it alone may criticise but may not be criticised. Continue reading I refer to today’s Star which carried my response to your column of 29th March

Some commentators have described my meeting with the MCA President, Datuk Dr.Ling Liong Sik, at the MCA Headquarters last Tuesday on the KSM-MPHBIF issue as a ‘farce’, with one commentator accusing Liong Sik and myself of having no sincerity and no intention to resolve the problem of the 50,398 KSM-MPHBIF unitholders. The 50,398 unitholders should make use of their influence in MCA to ask for emergency meetings of MCA Branches, Divisions, State Conferences as well as an EGM to remind the MCA national leadership of its promise at one time that MPHB would be worth $10 a share

by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Tanjung, Lim Kit Siang, in Petaling Jaya on Thursday , 29th March 1990:

The 50,398 unitholders should make use of their influence in MCA to ask for emergency meetings of MCA Branches, Divisions, State Conferences as well as an EGM to remind the MCA national leadership of its promise at one time that MPHB would be worth $10 a share

The present MCA leadership, let by MCA President, Datuk Dr.Ling Liong Sik, has forgotten its roots and origins. It has forgotten that one important reason the Tan Koon Swan faction could defeat the Neo Yee Pan faction in the 22-months MCA power struggle was because of the loyal support of MCA members who had full confidence in the call of the Tan Koon Swan faction for democratic reform and selfless service by the MCA leaders. The DAP’s position on KSM-MPHBIF has always been clear and unequivocal right from the beginning.

By Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Tanjung, Lim Kit Siang, at the meeting with MCA President and Transport Minister, Datuk Dr.Ling Liong Sik, at MCA Headquarters on the KSM-MPHBIF on Tuesday, 27th March 1990 at 10 a.m.:
Position

The DAP’s position on KSM-MPHBIF has always been clear and unequivocal right from the beginning.

The KSM-MPHBIF was conceived as a one-counter unit trust where each unit was equal to one share in MPHB. In fact, when the KSM-MPHBIF was launched about 10 years ago, the selling line by MCA leadership was that loyal MCA members should ensure that the MCA project, the Multi-Purpose Holdings Bhd. (MPHB) should be protected from any possible take-over. As KSM had only 28.9 per cent stake in MPHB, which was not enough to ward off any take-over bid of MPHB, the KSM-MPHBIF was born to ask loyal MCA member in the KSM to contribute to an Investment Trust Fund for MPHB shares amounting to 19.7 per cent stake which together with the 28.9 per cent stake in MPHB shares would ensure that MPHB would always be un the control of the MCA leadership.
