It is most significant that the Election Commission has been silent in a thousand tongues in not openly denying my statement that it has instructed State Election officials to get ready for a snap 21-day voters’ registration exercise beginning on March 1 primarily to register the 300,000 to 500,000 UMNO Baru members who are not on the Electoral Roll, although the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, has made his routine denial that the Government or UMNO Baru could direct the Election Commission to do its bidding. Challenge to Election Commission to deny that if had sent out instructions, to State Election officials on the snap 21-day voters’ registration exercise beginning on March 1 with the primary objective of registering the 300,000 UMNO Baru members who had not registered as voters

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, had denied after the UMNO Baru Supreme Council meeting yesterday that UMON Baru had directed the Election Commission to conduct a snap voters’ registration exercise next month to pad the Electoral Roll with pro-UMNO Baru voters for the next general elections. Wang Ah Hoong should withdraw his test case on Section 67 of the Selangor Islamic Administration Law Enactment from the Supreme Court and out MCA to the test that thise issue has been resolved in the “Barisan Nasional spirit”

Wang Ah Hoong should withdraw his test case on Section 67 of the Selangor Islamic Administration Law Enactment from the Supreme Court and out MCA to the test that thise issue has been resolved in the “Barisan Nasional spirit”

Two news reports yesterday and today have again highlighted the unresolved Selangor Islamic Law Administration Enactment, which had deprived the fundamental right of parents to unfettered control, guardianship and custody of their children below 18 years of age, and their freedom to decide on their religion. Two weeks ago, on 12th January 1990, DAP National Deputy Chairman and MP for Jelutong, Karpal Singh, lodged a police report in Penang against the Attorney-General, Tan Sri Abu Talib Othman, for destroying the eleven Vijandran videotapes and four envelopes of 2,000 photographs. I welcome the statement by the Speaker of Parliamentary, Tan Sri Zahir Ismail, yesterday that the Dewan Rakyat could by wat of a motion remove D.I. Vijandran as Deputy Speaker without waiting for the outcome of any court case, as the parliamentary powers were not connected with the court. I am today issuing an Open Letter to the Chairman of the Election Commission, Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Talib, the Deputy Chairman, Encik Lee Kok Cheng, and Election Commission members, Encik Samuel A. Abishegam and Abang Roseli bin Abang Hj. Paleng, urging them to safeguard and assert their Constitutional independence and not to bow to the dictates of UMNO Baru leaders, who want to manipulate and tamper with the elections machinery, mechanism and regulations.
