DAP calls for the closure of the Anti-corruption Agency as it serves no purpose when it is so ineffective against corruption in government and high political levels

Eight years after the much – vaunted slogan of the resent government for a clean efficient and trustworthy’ administration, corruption in government and high political circles have never been so rampant as today as at any time in the country’s history. In fact, corruption, breach of trust and abuse of power seem to have become so deep – rooted that it has become an integral part of the political culture of the Barisan Nasional government. The Prime Minister and home Minister, Datuk Seri Mahathir Mohamed, in reply to my parliamentary question, has said that since September 1989, 117 natives in Sarawak had been detained for forming peaceful human barricades in the deep interior of Sarawak’s tropical rainforests to stop the destruction of their lands by timber companies. The Finance Minister, Datuk Peduka Daim Zainuddain, has last Friday, when presenting the 1990 Budget, Presented an election budget and made an electioneering speech. Director of Internal Security and Public Order, Datuk Haji Mohamed Zaman Khan, had not fully understood my criticism when I said that the police had not been able to act fast enough to allay public alarm and panic which occurred in the Federal Capital and even the whole country over the Jalan Chow Kit shooting incident.
