In the past few days, the MCA leaders have shown their ‘true colours’ on the $1.5 billion Co-operative Finance Scandal, for MCA Deputy President Lee Kim Sai in his capacity as the MCA Director of Operations for the Gopeng by-election, has made it very clear that the MCA is opposed to the demands of the 588,000 co-operative depositors for a government guarantee of ‘dollar-to-dollar’ refund. This is the fourth public meeting of the 588,000 co-operative depositors in the second round of nation-wide protest meetings against the government’s indifference to their suffering and plight, as well as discrimination in refusing to rescue the 23 co-operatives in the way Bank Bumiputera and Bank Rakyat were rescued. If Lee Kim Sai can convince DAP why the 588,000 co-operative depositors is not entitled to equal government treatment in its rescue of BMF-Bank Bumiputra, DAP is prepared to five MCA a walk-ever in Gopeng by-election

MCA Deputy President, Datuk Lee Kim Sai, said in Gopeng yesterday that if I could deliver the whole refund in cash to the 588,000 depositors in the 24 co-operatives whose activities were frozen by Bank Negara, the MCA would be willing to give the DAP a walk-over in the coming Gopeng parliamentary by-election. DAP calls for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the $500 million EPF shares scandal and why EPF is losing tens of millions of dollars from imprudent and illegal non-trustee/investments/stock.

Although it is new one month since the tabling in Parliament of the Auditor-General’s Report on the 1985 EPF accounts, the 4.8 million EPF contributors had not been given any satisfactory explanation as to why the EPF Investment Panel and EPF Board had made imprudent, and illegal non-trustee investments loading to tens of millions of dollars of losses. Before I spoke, I was asked by several co-operative depositors what they could do to get the Government to realize their sufferings and understand that it has a legal, political and moral responsibility to resolve the grievances of the 588,000 co-operative depositors fairly and unjustly, and without any undue delay.
