DAP calls for the establishment of a NEP Commission

Speech by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary- General and MP for Petaling, Lim Kit Siang, when declaring open the Johore DAP State Political Course at Kluang DAP premises on Sunday Oct. 4, 1981 at 9.30 a.m.

DAP calls for the establishment of a NEP Commission where complaints about deviations from the NEP policy that in its implementation “no particular group experiences any loss or feels any sense of deprivation of its rights, privileges, income, job on opportunity” could ne made and investigated.

The new Economic Policy, with its twin objective of eliminating poverty regardless of race and the restructuring of Malaysian society to multi- racialise every facet of Malaysian life, is entering its second decade of implementation. Call for the Walkathon Donation Forms given to school pupils for the Education Department Sports Carnival should be collected back immediately from all pupils or I will propose a $10 cut of salary of the Director of Education, Selangor, in Parliament.

Call for the Walkathon Donation Forms given to school pupils for the Education Department Sports Carnival should be collected back immediately from all pupils or I will propose a $10 cut of salary of the Director of Education, Selangor, in Parliament.

Despite my call to the Education Minister, Dr. Sulaiman Daud, to countermand the Selangor Education Department circular sending primary school pupils into the streets to collect donations for a Education Department Sports Carnival, nothing has been done. Speech by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary- General and MP for Petaling and Assemblyman for Kubu, Lim Kit Siang, in the Malacca State Assembly on Tuesday, 29th Sept. 1981 on the motion to congratulate Dr. Mahathir and Dato Musa on their appointment as Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister respectively and to express confidence and support for them.

DAP calls for a orientation course for all state government employees to instill in them the sense of service, courtesy and commitment to the welfare of the rakyat.

When the new leadership of Dr. Mahathir and Datuk Musa took over the reins of national government, great emphasis was given to the creation of a ‘clean, efficient and smooth’ government- ‘berseh, cekap and licin’. A Biased Report Of Committee Of Privileges

(Speech by Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary- General and MP for Petaling and Assemblyman for Kubu, Lim Kit Siang, in the Malacca State Assembly on Tuesday, 29th Sept. 1981 on the motion to accept the Report of the Committee of Privileges that he had been absent without leave from the Assembly for six months)

DAP rejects the Report of the Committee of Privileges as being biased and prejudiced, and drafted to support a predetermined conclusion in utter disregard of general parliamentary practice and the Malacca Constitution

The house is asked to accept the Report of the Committee of Privileges tabled on 28th April 1981 with the finding that as I was absent from the State Assembly meeting on 23rd Sept. 1980, under Article 17 of the Malacca Constitution, I had been “without the leave of the Assembly absent from every sitting thereof for a period of six month” and that my Assembly seat of Kubu may be declared vacant. DAP calls on Minister of Education, Dr. Sulaiman Daud, to countermand the Selangor Education Department circular sending primary school pupils into the streets to collect donations for a sports carnival.

DAP calls on Minister of Education, Dr. Sulaiman Daud, to countermand the Selangor Education Department circular sending primary school pupils into the streets to collect donations for a sports carnival.

The Selangor Education Department has explained that the thousands of primary school children in the state are asked to take to the streets in the next five months to raise funds for a sports carnival next year for teachers and other staff in the education department. The target is $90,000. DAP calls on the Prime Minister, Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, to reconsider and attend the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ Conference in Melbourne, or send the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Musa Hitam in his stead.

According to press reports, Malaysia will be the only country which will not be represented at the Melbourne Commonwealth Heads of Government Conference by its Prime Minister. After yesterday’s Public Accounts Committee meeting, the PAC Chairman, Datuk Lee Boon Peng, made the shocking announcement that the PAC had abandoned its inquiries into the Instant Mee Scandal, and had instead, passed the buck back to the Ministry of Defence by directing it to set up a board of inquiry into it.
