The inauguration of the DAP Political Education Committee marks another milestone in the DAP, as henceforth, political education of party members and cadres to upgrade the political commitment of party members will be a major feature of party activities in the 1980s. Call on Malaysians who are concerned about the preservation of Chinese and Tamil primary schools as guaranteed by the Constitution should get themselves registered as voters from August 25 onwards

The Voters’ Registration exercise this year will begin on August 25 and will last for 42 days. During the previous general elections, substantial numbers of Malaysian youths found that although they wanted to vote for the DAP, they could not cast their ballot because they have not been registered as voters. DAP proposes the formation of a National Action Committee to defend the constitutional position of Chinese and Tamil primary schools comprising representatives from organizations concerned and committed to the concept that Chinese and Tamil primary schools should be an integral and eternal part of the national education system

This tea party had been organized for representatives of political parties and organizations which had all along expressed concern and commitment to the concept that Chinese and Tamil primary schools should be an integral and eternal part of the national education system to discuss and find ways to put an immediate and effective step to the recent growing strident demands for the closure of Chinese and Tamil primary schools, and to work out concrete steps to defend the constitutional position of Chinese and Tamil primary schools in accordance with the Constitutional guarantees in the country. I had asked for new approaches and concepts in organization to better equip the Party for the Eighties. New ideas and approaches should not be confined to Organisation, but must apply to all fields of Party activity.

The DAP, through Sdr. Lee Lam Thye and Sdr. M. Kuppusamy, have lodged police reports against the UMNO Youth leader, Haji Suhaimi Kamarrudin, and an UMNO Kelantan Delegate, Haji Jalani Jafaar, for offences against the Sedition Act 1948 as revised in 1970 in calling for the implementation of Clause 21(2) of the Education Act 1961 and the closure of Chinese and Tamil primary schools.
