DAP calls for a Parliamentary Inquiry in to human rights violations in Malaysia

DAP calls for a Parliamentary Inquiry in to human rights violations in Malaysia following the devastating Amnesty International Report on Malaysia.

The Amnesty International Report on human rights in Malaysia, released in London yesterday, is a devastating document of the systematic violation of human rights in Malaysia. It will mar and maim Malaysia’s international standing and image, Malaysia’s international image as a humane and civilised nation could not be regained not by Government leaders pouring scorn or condemnation on the Amnesty International, but by the holding of a Parliamentary or other form of Public Inquiry into the human rights violations in the country, coupled by a will and sincerity on the part of the Government to put an end to such human rights violations. Call on Prime Minister, Datuk Hussein, to multi-racialism the heads of departments of government so that criticisms of departmental inefficiency and incompetence could not be exploited and distorted by irresponsible political leaders as criticisms against one race.

Call on Prime Minister, Datuk Hussein, to multi-racialism the heads of departments of government so that criticisms of departmental inefficiency and incompetence could not be exploited and distorted by irresponsible political leaders as criticisms against one race.

The Immigration Department Kuala Lumpur Office inefficiency and incompetence, the public outcry and criticism against the failure of the Immigration Department to provide efficient service to the people, the political exploitation of the criticisms by UMNO Youth Leader and the Director-General of Immigration and raising of racial issues, shows a very unhealthy aspect of Government service. DAP calls on Government to freeze the new cement price increase for one month and to hold public inquiry for the Ministry of Trade and the cement manufacturers to justify the huge cement price increase which would have the immediate impact on introducing a $100 million inflationary increase in country.

The 60% increase in the price of cement throughout Peninsular Malaysia approved by the Ministry of Trade and Industry would cost the people over $100 million in added burden and inflation, without taking into account the chain effects of price increase in houses, rentals and other services. The last few weeks have shown that the civil service in Malaysia is neither civil nor providing a service, The ordinary people of Malaysia who have to go government departments, whether to apply for passports, licenses or permits, or write to government departments, are thoroughly sick and fed up with the treatment they get in government offices – the indifference, discourtesy and high-handedness, as highlighted by the day-long queues at the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department in the past several days, letters unanswered and files even lost! DAP calls on Agriculture Ministers, Datuk Shariff Ahmad, to take two urgent measures to help fishermen in Pulau Ketam and Klang Pantei

DAP calls on Agriculture Ministers, Datuk Shariff Ahmad, to take two urgent measures to help fishermen in Pulau Ketam and Klang Pantei to make a decent livelihood: (1) to issue licensees to legalise the 1,500 trawler fishermen in Pulau Ketam; and (2) to amend the Fisheries Regulations on making of new fishing boats

For the 10,000 people on Pulau Ketam, fishing is their sole means of livelihood. The fishermen are also making an important contribution, not only to the economy of the country, but also to the health of the people.
