DAP welcome cabinet decision to give a 4-cent-a-unit subsidy to private electric companies and hopes that immediate action will be taken to restore power supplies in Paloh and Chalah

The Minister for Public Works and Utilities, Datuk Haji Abdul Ghani Gilong, announced in Raub yesterday that the government has agreed to give a subsidy of four cents a unit to all public licensees of power supply. I am more than satisfied with the DAP results in the Kenering State Assembly by-election, for the DAP has achieved what we had set out to do in contesting the Kenering State Assembly by-election.

Parliamentary Opposition Leader, Lim Kit Siang, congratulates Kenering DAP candidate, Tbrahim bin Singgeh, and Perak Chairman, Sdr. Lim Cho Hock, for the ‘more than satisfactory’ results in the Kenering by-election.

I am more than satisfied with the DAP results in the Kenering State Assembly by-election, for the DAP has achieved what we had set out to do in contesting the Kenering State Assembly by-election.

Firstly, we had slashed the Barisan Nasional majority by over 2,000 votes. In the 1974 general elections, which was a direct contest between Tan Sri Ghazalie Jawi of Barisan Nasional and Sik Sdri. Zaharah binti Ibrahim of DAP, Tan Sri Ghazalie Jawi won by a majority of 5,218 votes. This has now been slashed to 3,195 votes. If the Pekemas candidate, which was supported by the PSRM and KITA, had not interfered, this majority would have been reduced even further. DAP will not attend the meting of opposition parties proposed by KITA

DAP will not attend the meting of opposition parties proposed by KITA on Dec. 26

The DAP has received an invitation from KITA proposing a meeting of opposition parties in Kuala Lumpur on 26th December 1977.

The DAP is determined to break the Barisan Nasional monopoly of the Pahang State Assembly, and to introduce s strong Opposition group into the Pahang State Assembly in the next general elections. This will ensure that the voice of the rakyat and the poor will be heard and heeded in the Pahang State Assembly, whereas now, the voices and sufferings of the rakyat are virtually ignored.
