Call on the authorities to revert to the old abattoir system where fresh pork is available in the market

Call on the authorities to revert to the old abattoir system where fresh pork is available in the market, and when there is no unhealthy monopoly by a few in butchering

For the past several weeks, the problem of fresh pork for the consumers, and the new Shah Alam abattoir which gave monopoly to four persons who hold licence to slaughter pigs, have caused unhappiness and frustration to the people in Kuala Lumpur and in Selangor.

Before the authorities implement ay programmes which will affect the customs and life-styles of the Malaysian Chinese, the government should fully consults with the relevant organisations and groups concerned. DAP calls for immediate nation-wide freeze of rents until extension of rent control ordinance as a positive step to help low-income groups fight inflation

The DAP welcomes the statement by the Deputy Prime Minister, Dato Hussein On, that the government is considering the amendment to the Rent Control Ordinance to extend its coverage and curb unreasonable increases in rents.

I suggested in Parliament last year that rent control laws should be extended to cover new areas, including houses built after 1948, to protect the incomes of the lower income groups. I had in the Dewan Rakyat specifically mentioned the Petaling Jaya as a new area which should name under rent control, to prevent unreasonable rent increases from being imposed, adding to the hardship to the poor who are already in financial straits from the effects of galloping inflation. Speech by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Lim Kit Siang, to the Negri Sembilan DAP State Sub-Committee held at Jalan Wilkinson premises, Seremban, on Sunday, 12th May 1974 at 3pm.

Lim Kit Siang writes to Prime Minister, Tun Razak, calling for a Public Commission of Inquiry into the $27 million scandal involving the issue of false APs for lorries and Mercedes Benz.

It was reported by the press two days ago that the Customs officers in North Malaya have seized more than 20 lorries, believed illegally assembled in Perak, worth about #400,000, and the vehicles are now at the Customs village ay Jalan Pegawai, Alor Setar.

The seized lorries, according to press reports, were of Bedford and Ford 1972 and 1973 models, and were mostly registered in Perak last year and this year, Several were registered in Kedah and Malacca.
