Lim Kit Siang challenges Khir Johari

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, to the Perak State Committee meeting in Ipoh DAP Branch premises on Sunday, August 18, 1968 at 10 a.m.

In his speech at the Central Kedah UMNO annual delegates conference last Friday, the UMNO Secretary-General, Inche Khir Johari, repeated the unfounded Alliance charge that the DAP is 100% communal, takes moral and material inspiration from outside the country, and fight for the interest of foreign countries.

This is a downright irresponsible statement, utterly unbecoming of the Minister of Education, who is responsible in instilling in hundreds of thousands of Malaysian children the moral qualities of honesty, integrity, sincerity and truth. Continue reading Lim Kit Siang challenges Khir Johari

Motion to reprieve the death sentence of the 13 condemned

Talk by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, to members and supporters at Pusing, Perak, on Saturday, August 17, 1968 at 7.30 p.m

Appeal to Tunku to withdraw the whip to allow Alliance MPs to vote according to conscience on the motion to reprieve the death sentence of the 13 condemned.

When the motion seeking a reprieve of the death sentence of the 13 condemned youths is put to a vote in Parliament next week, we urge the Prime Minister to allow MPs to vote according to individual conscience, and not in conformity with any party line.

The issue of commuting the death sentence of life imprisonment is strictly above party politics, and should be treated as such. Continue reading Motion to reprieve the death sentence of the 13 condemned

DAP supports National University idea

The DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, today (16.8.68) issued the following statement:

The Democratic Action Party fully supports the proposal to establish a National University, to provide opportunities for higher education for National secondary schools.

The national school system is the step-child of the government. Its standard is low, teaching poor, and its certificate, the S.P.M., worthless.

This is why there is an exodus of students from national schools to national-type English schools. This is why although Alliance Ministers, including the Education Minister, Inche Khir Johari, warned parents not to send their children away from national schools to English schools, none of their children is studying in any of the national schools. The formation of the protem committee of the Bukit Rambai DAP Branch marks yet another milestone in the steady expansion of the democratic socialist movement in Malaysia.

In the short period of slightly over two years since the formation of the Democratic Action Party, we have given new hope to thinking Malaysians that a new political force has emerged on the Malaysian scene, which has the brain power, organisation, stamina and youth to defeat the forces of reaction, inequality, injustice and racialism which has dominated this country since independence.
