Parliamentary Opposition Leader, DAP Secretary-General and MP for Tanjung, Li in Kit Slang, yesterday called on the Federal Government, to immediately establish a full university in Sabah.

Lim was speaking in Parliament on the committee stage of the Education Ministry on the 1993 supplementary supply and development, estimates, which provided for an allocation for Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). Last Monday, in the Parliament press room, l accepted challenge of the Finance Minister, Dat.uk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and repeated outside the Dewan Rakyat chambers what I said in the debate on the Sewerage Services Bill last Thursday, that Tan Sri Vincent Tan, who had been awarded the privatisation for the national sewerage services system through Indah Consortium, is ‘ kawan karib’ of Anwar Ibrahim. Has the government made a study “whether it is not cheaper and faster” to extend the existing facilities of the Subang International Airport instead of building a new RM20 billion Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang in meet the country’s needs?

Firstly, I wish to ask whether before deciding on building a RM20 billion new Kuala Lumpur International Airport, a study had been made whether it is not cheaper and faster to extend the Subang International Airport facilities to cope with the needs of civil aviation for the next decade; whether Malaysia has the air traffic capacity, whether passenger or cargo, to operate multi-airport systems like Tokyo, London, Paris and Mew York; and the outcome of such a study. Just as it seems to have become the habit of the Barisan Government to introduce a Constitution Amendment Bill every time Parliament meets, it has also become the habit of the Finance Ministry to ask for supplementary votes for operating and development expenditures every time Parliament meets,
This is the second Parliamentary meeting for this year and we have before us the second set of supplementary estimates for 1993, RM RM296,393,300 as second 1993 supplementary estimates for Operating expenditure arid RM136,103,580 as second 1993 supplementary estimates for development expenditures.
