DAP’s proclamation of the KEPAYANG DECLARATION in Parliament on Oct. 25 has put the aspirations of Malaysians for a Malaysia of ‘many languages and many cultures’ at the centre-stage of national attention

On October 25, I fulfilled the promise I made to the people of Kepayang during the by-election campaign to proclaim the KEPAYANG DECLARATION in Parliament so that the government, Parliament and the whole nation knows about the aspirations of Malaysians for a Malaysia of ‘many languages and many cultures’, and their rejection of a Malaysia of ‘one language, one culture’. DAP will probably contest the Perlis State Assembly by-election in Titi Tinggi

There will be a by-election in the Perlis State Assembly seat of Titi Tinggi soon, as the MCA candidate who was returned unopposed has passed away. The DAP will probably contest the Perlis by-election. This will make the DAP expand the another state in Malaysia, as the DAP had not contested in Perlis before although we have a branch in Kaki Bukit in Perlis. DAP CEC gives greenlight for contest in the Jempol State Assembly by-election.

When I first arrived in Kuala Pilah for the solidarity dinner, I was besieged by party comrades from Negeri Sembilan who asked whether the Party’s Central Executive committee will allow a contest by the DAP in the forthcoming Negeri Sembilan Jempol State Assemblyman for the area, Encik Mohamad Yasin Othman. I am more than satisfied with the DAP results in the Kenering State Assembly by-election, for the DAP has achieved what we had set out to do in contesting the Kenering State Assembly by-election.

Parliamentary Opposition Leader, Lim Kit Siang, congratulates Kenering DAP candidate, Tbrahim bin Singgeh, and Perak Chairman, Sdr. Lim Cho Hock, for the ‘more than satisfactory’ results in the Kenering by-election.

I am more than satisfied with the DAP results in the Kenering State Assembly by-election, for the DAP has achieved what we had set out to do in contesting the Kenering State Assembly by-election.

Firstly, we had slashed the Barisan Nasional majority by over 2,000 votes. In the 1974 general elections, which was a direct contest between Tan Sri Ghazalie Jawi of Barisan Nasional and Sik Sdri. Zaharah binti Ibrahim of DAP, Tan Sri Ghazalie Jawi won by a majority of 5,218 votes. This has now been slashed to 3,195 votes. If the Pekemas candidate, which was supported by the PSRM and KITA, had not interfered, this majority would have been reduced even further. The DAP has decide to take the Barisan National Government to COURT to challenge the illegality and unconstitutionality of the Essential (Security Cases) Regulations.

As I said in my initial press statement on the Essential (Security Cases) Regulation 1975 on 3rd October, 1975 I had asked the party’s legal advisers to study the illegal and unconstitutional character of the Regulations. Continue reading DAP to take the Barisan National Government to COURT

Selayang By- election: some conclusions

Speech by DAP Secretary- General and Member of Parliament Kota Melaka, Lim Kit Siang, at the 8th June 1975 at 8 p.m.

Selayang By- election: some conclusions

The Selayang parliamentary by-election on June 14 confirmed several political facts in Malaysia. Some of these are:

(i) The MCA’s dependence on the UMNO for success of its candidates. It was amusing to see the MCA President, Dato Lee San Choon, for he was nomination day that 50% of the voters in Selayang are Chinese, from he was trying to claim that MCA on its own steam could get its own candidates elected. The Straits Times, which is more Barisan Nasioal, however, said after the by-election that a MCA woman candidate has been elected by a Malay-majority constituted. The MCA of course cannot fool the UMNO, although it may try to fool the people. Continue reading Selayang By- election: some conclusions

Call on the people of Kajang to vote against Tun Tan Siew Sin and his policies on Nov. 3

Speech by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a DAP Public Rally during the Kajang by-election at Kajang town on Thursday, Nov. 1, 1973

Call on the people of Kajang to vote against Tun Tan Siew Sin and his policies on Nov. 3

The MCA President, Tun Tan Siew Sin, said in Ipoh yesterday that the Chinese themselves were to blame for their troubles because of their political indifference.

He does not blame himself or his MCA colleagues for their substantial contribution in the last 20 years for the present troubles faced by the Chinese.

After all, it is the MCA Ministers in Cabinet and MCA MPs in Parliament who supported and enacted a whole series of laws which have emasculated the political, economics, educational and cultural rights of the Malaysian Chinese and other races in the country.

Who supported the amendment to the Malaysian Constitution in February 1971 to curtail the political rights of the people?

Who supported the legislative provision in January 1972 to abolish the Boards of Managements of Chinese schools? Continue reading Call on the people of Kajang to vote against Tun Tan Siew Sin and his policies on Nov. 3
