In the past few days, the MCA leaders have shown their ‘true colours’ on the $1.5 billion Co-operative Finance Scandal, for MCA Deputy President Lee Kim Sai in his capacity as the MCA Director of Operations for the Gopeng by-election, has made it very clear that the MCA is opposed to the demands of the 588,000 co-operative depositors for a government guarantee of ‘dollar-to-dollar’ refund. This is the third public meeting of the 588,000 co-operative depositors in the second round of nation-wide protests against the government’s indifference to their suffering and plight. Before I spoke, I was asked by several co-operative depositors what they could do to get the Government to realize their sufferings and understand that it has a legal, political and moral responsibility to resolve the grievances of the 588,000 co-operative depositors fairly and unjustly, and without any undue delay. The greatest danger facing the 588,000 co-operative depositors is that their plight and problems may be forgotten, while weeks turn into months and months into years, although now and then MCA Ministers and government officials may make innocuous and meaningless statements that their problems are being looked into. The nation-wide campaign will begin at the end of March. No amount of expensive PR campaign can restore the tattered image, standing and credibility of MCA unless MCA leaders are prepared to break from tradition to prove that they are in politics not for themselves but for the community and country

No amount of expensive PR campaign can restore the tattered image, standing and credibility of MCA unless MCA leaders are prepared to break from tradition to prove that they are in politics not for themselves but for the community and country.

It has been reported that the MCA, battered by a series of scandals, is to launch a publicity campaign to boost its image. This PR campaign will glorify the party’s achievements and the greatness of MCA leaders. Call on Bank Negara Governor to explain whether it is true that the Government initiated a $ 300 million plan to bail out the co-operative Central Bank

It is the most regrettable that the Bank Negara Governor, Datuk Jaffar Hussein, has cancelled in the last minute, the appointment to meet DAP MPs today. The appointment was made about two weeks ago, and the reason given was that the Bank Negara Governor would not meet any member of any political party over the co-operative issue.
