Commonwealth Parliamentary Association officials surprised by Malacca Barisan National interpretation of provision that a Assembly Member could begin to be absent when the Assembly is in recess

The chief Minister said that the Malacca Barisan National move to declare my Kubu seat vacant is based on law and not personal.
He said that the Kubu seat could be declared vacant because I had been absent without permission from the Speaker for six months. The Party is in the process of carrying out a Cultural Revolution – but one without Red Guards. There must be a conscious effort by all party leaders and members to bring about change of attitudes to party commitment, party responsibilities and the need to set an example of leadership to others.

I had asked for new approaches and concepts in organization to better equip the Party for the Eighties. New ideas and approaches should not be confined to Organisation, but must apply to all fields of Party activity.

Responsibility and Challenge of State Committees

From now on, State Committees must play an active and leading role for all party tasks in the State, and the Central Executive Committee will hold the State Committees responsible for all aspects of the Party’s programmes and projects in the state, e.g. in fulfilling sales targets for the Rockets, in upgrading the organization of branches, or in meeting the various political tasks set by the Party leadership from time to time. I understand that the voters’ registration campaign will be held in August this year. In my view, this campaign is of crucial importance as it will determine to a large extent whether we succeed in making the next general elections our most glorious milestone to date.

The DAP is now on the eve of launching the Party’s Political Offensive of the 80s. this political offensive, aimed at winning over a even bigger number of Malaysians, needs the support, contribution and sacrifice of every party member, official, Member of Parliament and State Assemblyman, to ensure its success.

The success of this political offensive will determine whether the DAP will grow to be an even more powerful political force in the country, or whether our glorious days are already behind us. Eight days ago, the people of Malaysia elected nine DAP Members of Parliament and 23 State Assemblymen to represent them in Parliament and the State Assemblies. DAP’s 1979 Sarawak General Elections Objective: To restore the people’s voice in the Council Negri and to establish that Government is to serve the interests of the rakyat and not a handful of politicians and their backers.

The DAP will be contesting the Sarawak General Elections with very clear objectives in mind. Of course, we would like to win the maximum number of seats in which we will be fielding candidates, bur even more important than winning seats, we want to bring about radical changes in the political development of the state by restoring the people’s voice in the Council Negri and to establish that Government is to serve the interests of the rakyat and not a handful of politicians and their sponsors.
