In its attempt to divert public attention on the reasons for the arrest in Singapore of MCA President, Tan Koon Swan, the MCA has decided to ‘politicise’ the issue, and to work up emotions the MCA members and hopefully among the Malaysian Chinese. The DAP Central Executive Committee will meet in Petaling Jaya on Saturday, Dec. 7, 1985 to discuss plans for the next general elections, which is expected to be held before April 1986, and most probably in February immediately after the Chinese New Year. Political Declaration by Chinese organisations must not have ulterior political motives or orchestrated by unseen political hands if it is not to lose its impact, meaning and purpose.

With the approach of general elections, expected to be held any time from December 1985 to April 1986, it is natural for the mushrooming of political or political-related activities whether by political or non-political organisations. Call on DAP leaders and members not to rule out completely the possibility of general elections being held by early next year

Call on DAP leaders and members not to rule out completely the possibility of general elections being held by early next year.

The prevailing opinion today is that it is impossible for general elections to be held this year, and that because of the MCA troubles, general elections could be held as late as 1987 for the full parliamentary term to be completed.
