Call on the Government not to hide behind the cult of secrecy to deny meaningful and effective Parliamentary control of public expenditures, especially multi-million dollar expenditures in defence, as it would be the mother of corruption, inefficiency and incompetence

The first 1981 supplementary development estimates, in asking for an additional vote for $4,294 million, probably makes history as the biggest supplementary vote ever to be asked by the Government since Merdeka in 1957. Call on Minister of Education to rectify the step-children treatment of Chinese and Tamil primary schools under the Fourth Malaysia Plan by providing at least 50% of the $518 million earmarked for primary schools for development of Chinese and Tamil primary schools

I move a $10 cut to the supplementary development vote for $60 million for primary schools to highlight a area of grave neglect in primary education ever since the launching of the New Economic Policy in 1971. The success of Fourth Malaysia Plan will depend on whether it could inspire and commit the energies, talents and resource of all Malaysians, regardless of race, to the challenge of building a united, peaceful, just and prosperous Malaysia

The DAP to expose and oppse deviation of the NEW Economic Policy in the last 10 years

Early this year, the Barisan Nasional Governement will present the Fourth Malaysia Plan to Parliament for adoption. At this mid-term period of the 20-Year Perspective Plan of the New Economic Policy, there has been many deviation from the New Economic Policy which has undermind national unity and inter-racial harmony in the country.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, and the other UNMO leaders had claimed that the NEP objective to help raise the economic standard of the bumiputras is not a policy to ’rob Peter to pay Paul’. The finance Minister, Tengku Razaleigh, in his 1981 Budget, prides himself for presenting a ‘smallman’s budget’

Parliamentary Opposition Leaders, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, has called on the Malaysian Government to recognise and treat all Malaysian of the Post-Merdeka generation as Bumiputeras.

Mr. Lim was speaking to a capacity crowd of Malaysian students at La Trobe University, Melbourne, the third consecutive night he spoke to Malaysian students. The previous two nights, Mr. Lim spoke to Malaysian students in Monash University and Melbourne University.
