I commend PUIC for planning picketing outside EPF headquarters in Petaling Jaya on Monday, July 7, to protest against the investment policies and decisions. This is necessary to demand greater and more meaningful accountability of the EPF Board and the Government in the management of the $2.5 billion funds of the five million EPF contributers. I had been posing for the past few weeks- the existence of a high-powered and highly secretive Investment Co-ordinating Committee at the Ministry of Finance which used public institutional funds running into hundreds of millions of dollars to buy stocks and shares. DAP calls on MAKUWASA to repay EPF the $10 million with interest for share transactions which it bought from EPF at below market-price

The mysterious $2 company, MAKUWASA, bought 13 share counters from the Employees Provident Fund from August 1984 to March 1985 at below market prices, causing the EPF to lose $10 million profit which should have accrued to the credit of the five million EPF contributors.
