There was a spate of reports in the Chinese press today that the MCA President, Datuk Dr. Ling Liong Sik, had given a distorted version of the MCA Central Committee meeting on Tuesday, 24th April 1990 when he told a Press Conference that MCA Deputy President, Datuk Lee Kim Sai, had given the MCA Central Committee a pledge not to contest for the post of MCA President in the July MCA party elections. I have now been informed that over TV 3 on Sunday, the Gerakan President, Datuk Dr. Lin Keng Yaik, named the DAP MP for Seputeh and National Publicity Secretary, Sdr. Liew Ah Kim, as the DAP leader who going or had gone to Jakarta for the secret meeting with a PAS leader. The focus of the weekend’s Gerakan General Assembly is the Gerakan party elections and in particular the contest between Dr. Lim Keng Yaik – Kerk Choo Ting and Goh Cheng Teik – Khor Gark Kim, when it should be on the Gerakan’s record in Cabinet and Government on the 10- month co-operative finance scandal and the sufferings of the 588,000 co-operative depositors.
