Tan Gim Hwa would be ‘ making a joke ‘ of the wanton destruction of the Penang heritage building , Hotel metropole , in asking its new owner to rebuild it within six months if MPPP does not have original building plan or scale drawing

The Penang Chief Minister , Dr. Koh Tsu Koon and the Penang Heritage Trust have come out in open support for the demand by the MPPP President, Datuk Tan Gim Hwa that Hotel Metropole should be rebuilt and restored by within six months. In the past few days, I had told a few DAP State Assemblymen , including Sdr. Taoh Tik Huar, Sdr. Chow Kon Yoew, Sdr. K. Balasundram and Sdr. Tan Loo Jit of my prediction that when Datuk Tan Gim Hwa breaks his prolonged silence on the outrageous and scandalous demolition of Hotel Metropole – or ‘ Hotel Gerakan’ as it is know in the last two decades – the MPPP President would claim that the knew nothing about the demolition. DAP calls on Penang Chief Minister, Dr. Koh Tsu Koon to freeze the re-appointment of MPPP councillors until they could give a satisfactory explanation for the undemocratic decision on Hotel Metropole which violates the principles of accountability, transparency and responsibility.

MPPP President, Datuk Tan Gim Hwa must explain why the MPPP had been so undemocratic in violating the principles of accountability and transparency in removing Hotel Metropole from the MPPP list of 20 conservation buildings at Millionaires’ row in Georgetown without public consultation or notice.
