DAP calls for a government White Paper on “The Future of Malaysia’s 750,000 New Villages”

Speech by DAP Secreatary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, when addressing members of Seremban DAP Branch on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 8p.m.

DAP calls for a government White Paper on “The Future of Malaysia’s 750,000 New Villages”

A month ago, I wrote a letter to the Prime Minister proposing the establishment of a special government department or agency to take special charge of the formulation and implementation of policies and programmes which will transform the country’s 400 new villages into a genuine dynamic force for agricultural and economic development.

I suggested that such a special New Villages department or agency should be entrusted first with the task of drawing up a blueprint to revive the economy of the new villages, and develop them into flourishing new growth centres by modernizing their economy, the raising of their productivity and incomes, the generation of new employment opportunities through dispersal of industries to new villages, allocation of land to the landless, and the provision of modern social services as public housing, electricity, water, medical services, improved educational opportunities and recreational and community services. DAP Secretary-General and M.P. for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, today issues the following statement:

Kepong Squatters

Together with the M.P. for Damansara and State Assemblyman for Penchala, Sdr. Hor Cheok Foon, the State Assemblyman for Serdang, Sdr. Yap Pian Hon, Sdr. Lau Dak Kee and Sdr. Khoo Thin Fook, I visited Kepong and the aquatters who are affected by the present squatter clearance exercise.

The Kepong squatter problem is not an isolated local problem, but a national problem, as it is part of a Kuala Lumpur-wide exercise to clear and uproot the life of about 200,000 people – one third of the people of Kuala Lumpur. Continue reading Kepong Squatters

Squatters and landless in Selangor

Two days ago, I urge the Alliance Selangor State Government to act with humanity and compassion when dealing with poor villagers.

I was referring in particular to the case if 20 odd Chinese and Indian families at Puchong, whom the State Government was going to evict from their land, demolish their houses and destroy their fruit trees without compensation or alternative land sites. A plea for a government with humanity and understanding of the hardship of the people

A plea for a government with humanity and understanding of the hardship of the people

Yesterday, while on my house-to-house visit in Puchong, 13 m. s., I came across another instance of the cruelty, heartlessness and inhumanity of the Alliance State Government.

At the Puchong 13 m. s., there were about 20 Chinese and Indian families, who face imminent eviction from their land, and demolition of their houses and destruction of their fruit trees by the State Government, because their land had been allocated to Malays.

A visit to these houses will show the poverty, hardship and misery of rural folks in Malaysia, whether Malay, Chinese or Indian. Continue reading A plea for a government with humanity and understanding of the hardship of the people

Eviction of 2,000 people

Press Statement

About 2,000 people residing on the land between Jalan Kuantan and Jalan Seavoy, of about 230 houses, have been given one week’s notice by the Setapak Tin Land Syndicated Ltd. and Ban Hock Hin Mining Ltd. to demolish their houses tomorrow, 13th December 1968.

The resident were asked to shift to Subang, more than 20 miles from their present residence, without compensation whatsoever.

The majority of the resident are hawkers and construction workers. Now they are threatened with the destruction of their homes, where many have stayed from 10 to 50 years, the disruption of their means of livelihood, and even the deprivation of educational opportunities for their children, for the nearest schools to the proposed Subang site are five to ten miles away. Lim Kit Siang replies to Mr. S.K. Lau, Political Secretary to the Minister of Local Government and Housing

The DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, today issued the following statement (6.10.68):

Poor Mr. S.K. Lau. His boss, Mr. Khaw Khai Boh, must have sent him a rude and nasty letter from Mexico, where the Minister is enjoying the Olympic fun and games, for failing to defend him against my criticism of his housing record at a DAP public rally at Sungei Way two weeks ago.

Hence Mr. Lau’s belated defence of his boss’ housing achievement. Hence Mr. Lau’s disregard of facts and figures to prove to the Minister that he is worth his pay as his Political Secretary.

Mr. Lau accused me of not checking up the facts when I criticized Mr. Khaw for his dismal record in housing achievement during his four years as Minister of Housing.

Mr. Lau boasted that the Housing Ministry has done great things. He claimed that by the end of this year, the Ministry would have completed close to 10,000 housing units. Continue reading Lim Kit Siang replies to Mr. S.K. Lau, Political Secretary to the Minister of Local Government and Housing
