I note that in commenting on the allegations by former inmate at Kuala Kubu Baru Drug Rehabilitation Centre, Rajah s/o Gengathaaran, 26, that he was physically assaulted until he agreed to escape from the centre to Kuala Lumpur to buy drugs of heroin and ganja for the ‘MIC’ seniors, the Director-General of Social Welfare, Encik Abdullah Malim Baginda, said that the government was trying to separate drug addicts into different categories and place them accordingly in the four main rehabilitation centres in Peninsular Malaysia. Call on Acting Prime Minister, Datuk Musa Hitam, to take immediate and firm action against a platoon of armed forces which went on a rampage some seven miles from Mengkarak new village on Friday assaulting and molesting rubber tappers.

On Friday, 26th February, 1982, from between 8 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. at Mengkarak Batu 66 rubber smallholdings, a platoon of soldiers went on a rampage against the tappers working on the holdings, assaulting them with rifles, slapping and kicking the men, women, girls and even a 13-year-old boy, demanding that they strip themselves, resulting in one serious case of injury and hospitalisation in the Mentakab General Hospital. DAP calls for a special government probe team to be sent to investigate into the working conditions of Malaysian workers in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries o protect Malaysian workers from exploitation, oppression and even threats to their very personal safety

Although last month, the Deputy Minister of Labour and Manpower, Datu K. Pathmanaban, gave a assurance to the Senate that Malaysian workers in the Middle East were working under satisfactory conditions, the revelations of working conditions of Malaysians in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries following the tragic and mysterious death of former Saudi Arabian airlines air hostess, Chathrina Tan Suan Hong, 21, has shown that either Datuk Pathmanaban was deliberately misleading Parliament or he did not know what he was talking about.
