Industrial Co-ordination Act

Everyone had expected an election budget, and true to expectations, the 1978 Budget that was presented last Friday was an election Budget. The trouble with an election budget, which gives out sweets, is that after elections, not only are the sweets taken away, but even more bitter pills are administered to pay for the pre-election sweets.

A closer study of the 1978 Budget shows that the sweets are given to the well-off and not to the poor, but which the poor will have to pay for after the elections. Import duties for jewelry , diamonds gold and precious stones are slashed by 10%, and on top of it, the sales tax on these items are further slashed from 10% to 5%. These election sweets are not for the poor, but for the rich.

The employers in Malaysia are very powerful and can get the Minister of Labour and the Ministry of Labour official to serve their interests.

In July last year, the Minister of Labour, Dato Lee San Choon, introduces the Employment (Amendment) Bill which, among other things, abolished the limited rights of workers to retrenchment and retirement benefits. Call to Malaysia Fancy Plywood and Veneer Company to immediately pay out to its 460 workers half-monthly salary for every month of cessation of work to enable the workers to pay fitrah and tide over the Hari Raya period

Two days ago, I dispute the claim by the Malaysia Fancy Plywood and Veneer Company that it was making heavy losses. My challenge to the company to open its accounts for public inspection and examination to prove that it was making heavy losses have not been taken up.

The public can therefore judge for themselves the truth or otherwise of this statement. DAP wants legislation to prohibit Industrial Relations Officers and Commissioners of Labour from taking up appointments as Management Personnel Officers for the first five years after leaving government service

Speech by Ketua Pembangkang and DAP Secretary- General, Lim Kit Siang, when speaking at the formation of the Perak DAP Labour Bureau in Ipoh on Saturday, 27th August 1977.

DAP wants legislation to prohibit Industrial Relations Officers and Commissioners of Labour from taking up appointments as Management Personnel Officers for the first five years after leaving government service.

The formation of the DAP Labour Bureau marks another step in the DAP fundamental commitment to the cause of Labour.

The task of the DAP Labour Bureau is to continue to identify labour problems, highlight the grievances of the workers and to champion the cause of the toiling masses. DAP seriously concerned by the victimisation of CUEPACS Vice President

The DAP is seriously concerned by the victimisation of CUEPACS Vice President, Mr. S.Santhanasamy, for organising and taking part in the picketing at the Public Services Department about two weeks ago.

Mr. Santhanasamy, who is also general secretary of the National Union of PWD Employees, had been transferred from the JKR HD library to the workshop at Jalan Cheras, to restrict hid capacity to discharge his duties as a union leader.
