DAP calls on the Government to repeal all repressive laws which has created a culture of fear among the people and stunted the growth of a full democracy in Malaysia

The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, said in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday that after the 1993 Constitution Amendment Bill became law, it would remove the culture of fear which had obstructed the implementation of the rule of law in cases involving the loyalty. DAP MPs will vote in support of the 1993 Constitution Amendment Bill when it is returned to the Dewan Rakyat with the consent of the Conference of Rulers next week

DAP had made it clear in the special Dewan Rakyat meeting of January 18 and 19 that we support the principles and provisions of the 1993 Constitution Amendment Bill to remove the Rulers’ immunity to commit criminal and wrongdoings, but DAP MPs had to cast abstention vote because the Bill had not complied with a fundamental constitutional requirement in getting tile consent of the Conference of Rulers. It is pathetic to see the Gerakan leaders, like Dr. Kang Chin Seng and Kerk Choo Ting, twisting and turning in trying to politicize the constitutional issue.
