A mental revolution among politicians in Malaysia needed

The Finance Minister and MCA President, Tun Tan Siew Sin, said in Malacca yesterday that the Chinese in Malaysia need a mental revolution, and that the Chinese should end their political apathy and end their fence-sitting.

I agree with him, but there is a crying need for a mental revolution, not only among the people, but also among the political leaders in the country. Continue reading A mental revolution among politicians in Malaysia needed

Police ban in political discussions by DAP Malacca

Adjournment Speech by DAP Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, in the Dewan Ra’ayat on Wednesday, 12th January 1971

Police ban in political discussions by DAP Malacca

At the end of last year, DAP Malacca organised political discussions in our premises at Jalan Munshi Abdullah in Malacca town for members and supporters to heighten their political consciousness and allow an exchange of views on the political, economic and social problems in the country.

The Malacca Police however frustrated the holding of these political discussions on the ground that as these political discussions are open to non-party members of the public, we will need a police permit and the police will have the right to attend these political discussions and tape-record the proceedings. RUKUNEGARA

Statement by DAP Secretary-General and Member of Parliament for Bandar Melaka, Lim Kit Siang, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at a press conference at Penang Bayan Lepas airport on Wednesday, 14 Oct. 1970 at 9.30p.m.

RUKUNEGARA

The Alliance government and the Gerakan Ra’ayat Malaysia have jointly worked out a national ideology, or Rukunegara, for the people of Malaysia.

We in the DAP have no part in the formulation of the Rukunegara. But as far back as in 1966, I have had the opportunity to write in the DAP organ, the Rocket, that the people of Malaysia should reach a common set of fundamental objectives on nation building, a national consensus, to ensure a united, peaceful and prosperous Malaysia. Where the DAP differs with the Alliance and the Gerakan: that Malaysia should be a multi-lingual and multi-cultural nation practicing cultural democracy

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the DAP eleventh Merdeka Anniversary Celebrations held at the Sentral DAP Branch premises, 632-A Jalan Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday, August 28 at 7.30 p.m.

While celebrating the 11th Merdeka Anniversary of Malaysia, we must pause and take stock of what progress we have made in our eleven years of independent nationhood.

In my mind, the crucial question to ask is: are we getting a more Malaysian-minded or a more race-motivated nation? Continue reading Where the DAP differs with the Alliance and the Gerakan: that Malaysia should be a multi-lingual and multi-cultural nation practicing cultural democracy

DAP’s challenge to Khir Johari to a TV debate

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, at the general meeting of the Jinjang DAP Branch on Sunday, 25th August 1968 at 8 p.m.

A week ago, I challenged the UMNO Secretary-General, Inche Khir Johari, to a television debate with the DAP to substantiate his charge that the DAP is a “100 per cent communal party.”

A day and then a week passed, without any reply from the UMNO superman, Inche Khir. Continue reading DAP’s challenge to Khir Johari to a TV debate

Lim Kit Siang challenges Khir Johari

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, to the Perak State Committee meeting in Ipoh DAP Branch premises on Sunday, August 18, 1968 at 10 a.m.

In his speech at the Central Kedah UMNO annual delegates conference last Friday, the UMNO Secretary-General, Inche Khir Johari, repeated the unfounded Alliance charge that the DAP is 100% communal, takes moral and material inspiration from outside the country, and fight for the interest of foreign countries.

This is a downright irresponsible statement, utterly unbecoming of the Minister of Education, who is responsible in instilling in hundreds of thousands of Malaysian children the moral qualities of honesty, integrity, sincerity and truth. Continue reading Lim Kit Siang challenges Khir Johari

(3) the “dedicated” politicians. Continue reading Opposition Politics in Malaysia

“Do as I say but don’t do as I do”

Speech by DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kim Siang, at the Pudu DAP branch on Monday, June 17 at 8 p.m. Pudu DAP Branch is the latest branch in Selangor to be registered. It is the 15th branch in the Selangor.

The Minister of Education, Inche Khir bin Johari, has called on teacher’s union to draw up a code of ethics as soon as possible.

He claimed that there are many “unethical practices” among teachers.

Inche Khir bin Johari is deliberately vague about his charges of “unethical practices.”

Unless these “unethical practices” are spelt out publicly, Inche Khir bin Johari’s charge can only be regarded as his latest in a long series of attempts to demoralise and undermine public confidence in the teachers. This can benefit no one, apart from, Inche Khir bin Johari. Continue reading “Do as I say but don’t do as I do”
