DAP calls on the Cabinet to launch a “zero defect” campaign in the entire government service to identify and overcome all possible human weaknesses and system defects to minimise avoidable disasters like the Subang International Airport Fires, Highland Towers Collapse Disaster and the latest RMAF helicopter crash.

DAP sends its deepest condolence to the families of the pilot, Mej Kamarul Bahrin Mohamad, and three crew members, co-pilot Kapt Fitri Abdullah, Flight Sjn Nordin Ahamd and Flight Sjn Azni Alias of RMAF MAS-332 Super Puma Helicopter who were killed in the latest helicopter crash in Sungai Petani yesterday. Has the government made a study “whether it is not cheaper and faster” to extend the existing facilities of the Subang International Airport instead of building a new RM20 billion Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang in meet the country’s needs?

Firstly, I wish to ask whether before deciding on building a RM20 billion new Kuala Lumpur International Airport, a study had been made whether it is not cheaper and faster to extend the Subang International Airport facilities to cope with the needs of civil aviation for the next decade; whether Malaysia has the air traffic capacity, whether passenger or cargo, to operate multi-airport systems like Tokyo, London, Paris and Mew York; and the outcome of such a study. Is Liong Sik a member of one of the golf clubs in the neighbourhood of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Subang whose ‘blinding floodlights’ are endangering night landings and the lives of air-travellers and is this the reason why he had not ordered an immediate ban of night golfing in the vicinity of the Subang Airport?
