Squatters and landless in Selangor

Speech by DAP Serdang State by-election candidate, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, and DAP Organising Secretary, at a DAP by-election rally at Puchong 14 m. s. on Friday 20th December 1968 at 8 p.m.

Squatters and landless in Selangor

Two days ago, I urge the Alliance Selangor State Government to act with humanity and compassion when dealing with poor villagers.

I was referring in particular to the case if 20 odd Chinese and Indian families at Puchong, whom the State Government was going to evict from their land, demolish their houses and destroy their fruit trees without compensation or alternative land sites. Rural health centre and industrialisation of Serdang

Speech by DAP Serdang State by-election candidate, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, and DAP Organising Secretary, at the DAP by-election rally at Kampong Sentosa, Petaling, on Wednesday, 18th December, at 8 p.m.

Point Two of DAP’s Serdang by-election pledge, the Serdang Twenty Points, called for “Priority attention to rural health, social life and education to improve the livelihood of the farmers.”

Serdang Bahru new village is the second largest new village in Malaysia, but it does not have a health centre and clinic to look after its population of 20,000 people, without taking into account the people living in surrounding areas.

This is proof of the utter disregard and neglect of the Alliance government for the welfare of the people in new village.

The government prefers spending millions of dollars on building golf courses, which benefits only the already well-to-do, and in sending Alliance leaders and government officials round the world on pleasure trips, than in building health centres for new villages. A plea for a government with humanity and understanding of the hardship of the people

A plea for a government with humanity and understanding of the hardship of the people

Yesterday, while on my house-to-house visit in Puchong, 13 m. s., I came across another instance of the cruelty, heartlessness and inhumanity of the Alliance State Government.

At the Puchong 13 m. s., there were about 20 Chinese and Indian families, who face imminent eviction from their land, and demolition of their houses and destruction of their fruit trees by the State Government, because their land had been allocated to Malays.

A visit to these houses will show the poverty, hardship and misery of rural folks in Malaysia, whether Malay, Chinese or Indian. Continue reading A plea for a government with humanity and understanding of the hardship of the people

Corruption in Malaysia: DAP wants all-party inquiry committee into causes of corruption

Speech by Serdang State by-election candidate, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, who is also DAP Organising Secretary, at a DAP by-election rally at Petaling Tin Mine, Sungei Way, on Tuesday, 17th December 1968 at 8 p.m.

Corruption in Malaysia: DAP wants all-party inquiry committee into causes of corruption

Point Ten of DAP’s Serdang by-election pledge, known as Serdang’s 20 Points, called for the “Elimination of corruption, at all levels of public life, particularly at high levels.”

Corruption in public life in Malaysia has increased under the Alliance rule over the years. It has infected almost every level of public life, from the lowliest to the highest.

The Alliance government lacks the will and resolution to stamp out corruption because the biggest offenders are to be found among Alliance political leaders, who make use of their position, power and influence for personal monetary gain. Siew Sin’s directive to all MCA members to resign from all Merdeka University preparatory bodies

The DAP organising Secretary and candidate for Serdang, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, today issued the following statement (16.12.68):

The MCA President, Tun Tan Siew Sin, has issued a directive to all MCA members to resign from all protem organisations of the Merdeka University project, or face party discipline.

It is clear that Tun Tan Siew Sin and the MCA, who claim themselves to be the sole champions of Chinese language and education, have received an order from the UMNO not only to oppose the Merdeka University project, but to wreck and destroy it.

The Alliance are worried at the wide support the Merdeka University project is receiving among the people. They have therefore decided to do everything they can to prevent the Merdeka University from succeeding.

Tun Tan has ordered MCA members to resign from all Merdeka University preparatory bodies or face party discipline. Continue reading Siew Sin’s directive to all MCA members to resign from all Merdeka University preparatory bodies

Recognition of China and admission into U.N

Speech by DAP candidate for Serdang State by-election, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, who is also the DAP Organising Secretary, at seventh DAP Serdang by-election rally at Serdang Bahru new village on Sunday, 15 December 1968 at 8.p.m.

It is ridiculous that Malaysia, a nation of 10 million people, does not recognise Communist China, a nation of 700 million people.

It is dangerous when Malaysia joins company with some discredited forces in common causes to work for the overthrow of the communist regime on the mainland. This is not only an interference with the affairs of another country, and in this case with the biggest country in the world which is to become the dominant power in Asia, but earning further her enmity and courting trouble.

But this is exactly what the Alliance government is doing.

The Alliance sent a high-level party delegation to the first conference of the World Anti-Communist League held in Taipei, Taiwan in September last year. Continue reading Recognition of China and admission into U.N

Re-organise the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital

PRESS RELEASE

The DAP Organising Secretary, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, today called for an immediate re-organisation of the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital to cut out all inefficiency, delay, deplorable service and incompetence which has made it one of the most inefficient hospitals in Malaysia.

Mr. Lim said the re-organisation of the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital should be the first step to overhaul the entire deplorable health service system in the country.

Mr. Lim said the people most affected by the deplorable service and standard of the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital are the poor and those from the lower income groups. The more well-to-do can afford to go to private clinics and hospital. Continue reading Re-organise the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital

A question for Mr. Michael Chen

Speech by DAP Candidate for Serdang State by-election, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, who is also DAP Organising Secretary, at the sixth DAP Serdang by-election rally at Salak South new village on Saturday, 14th December 1968.

A question for Mr. Michael Chen

A week ago, I asked the Alliance candidate, Mr. Thuan Phaik Phok, whether he support the DAP stand that “land does not belong to any one race or community, but belong to the nation, and should be given to Malaysian landless, regardless of race.”

Instead of giving a straightforward answer, Mr. Thuan tried to point out that there is a contradiction in the statement. Continue reading A question for Mr. Michael Chen

GERAKAN and Serdang By-election

The DAP Candidate for Serdang, Mr. Lim Kit Siang, who is also DAP Organising Secretary, today issued the following statement:

At the Gerakan Serdang by-election public rally in Serdang Bahru new village last Sunday, 8th December 1968, the Gerakan Secretary-General, Dr. Tan Chee Khoon asserted that the DAP and myself have branded the people of Serdang Bahru and Salak South new villages as ‘communists.’

This is a downright lie. I have never said or thought any such thing, nor is it the view of the DAP.

I invite Dr. Tan Chee Khoon to substantiate his statement, to state where and when I or the DAP had made any such statement. Continue reading GERAKAN and Serdang By-election

Eviction of 2,000 people

Press Statement

About 2,000 people residing on the land between Jalan Kuantan and Jalan Seavoy, of about 230 houses, have been given one week’s notice by the Setapak Tin Land Syndicated Ltd. and Ban Hock Hin Mining Ltd. to demolish their houses tomorrow, 13th December 1968.

The resident were asked to shift to Subang, more than 20 miles from their present residence, without compensation whatsoever.

The majority of the resident are hawkers and construction workers.
