Berjaya and USNO should accept the verdict of the people of Sabah in the April general elections and stop all forms of political blackmail and coercion to destabilize the PBS Government

Berjaya and USNO should accept the verdict of the people of Sabah in the April general elections and stop all forms of political blackmail and coercion to destabilize the PBS Government.

The renewed demand of the Berjaya Adviser and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk James Ongkili, that a coalition government should be set up in Sabah demonstrates the objective and purposes of those who create or condone the present artificial political crisis in Sabah. The PBS Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Joseph Pairin Kitingan, has convened another special sitting of the Sabah State Assembly on Monday to discuss a resolution that seats occupied to USNO Assemblymen be vacated for their failure to attend three consecutive sittings. DAP welcomes the Prime Minister’s Directive to Ministers Deputy Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and Barisan MPs on their parliamentary duties to attend Dewan Rakyat sittings

I welcome the directive issued by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, to all Deputy Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries to attend all sittings of Dewan Rakyat, and that Ministers are to be present when matters pertaining to their Ministers are being discussed, and that they should not leave Kuala Lumpur when the House is sitting, unless absolutely necessary. DAP calls on Finance Minister, Daim Zainuddin, to announce in tomorrow’s Budget Speech the establishment of a $50 million Salvage Fund to help and save the depositors of Setia Timur Credit & Leasing (M) Sdn. Bhd.

DAP calls on Finance Minister, Daim Zainuddin, to announce in tomorrow’s Budget Speech the establishment of a $50 million Salvage Fund to help and save the depositors of Setia Timur Credit & Leasing (M) Sdn. Bhd.

Yesterday, during the debate on the amendments to the Banking Act, the DAP Chairman and MP for Seremban, Dr. Chen Man Hin and I spoke about the Setia Timur crisis, where around 13,000 to 15,000 depositors who had deposited some $40 to $50 million in Setia Timur Credit & Leasing (M) Sdn. Bhd., are unable to get their monies back. MAS shares and the NEP

The government has lamented that the private sector had failed as an ‘engine of growth’, as it had placed great reliance on the private sector to lift the Malaysian economy out of the recession and doldrums.

However, the government should take a deeper look at the problem as to why there appears to be a lack of private investor confidence in Malaysia. The government has announced a review and proposed changes to the Industrial Co-ordination Act. When the DAP warned in the 1970s that the ICA is the greatest dampener of domestic private investment, this was disputed by the Barisan Nasional government. Now, the government had to admit that what the DAP had been saying for the last decade was correct.
