Malaysians welcome the annoucement by the Deputy Prime Minister, Ghafar Baba, on the Cabinet decision to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Sungai Buloh fireworks factory explosion, causing 100 dead or injured. Selangor Mentri Besar asked to explain clearly what he meant when he said yesterday that the government was not aware of the fireworks factory in Sungai Buloh.

I am astounded to read in the press today of a statement by the Selangor Mentri Besar, Tan Sri Muhammed Haji Muhammad Taib, after chairing the Selangor State Executive Council meeting yesterday that the State Government ‘was not aware of such a factory in Sungai Buloh’ when referring to the Sungai Buloh fireworks factory explosion disaster causing 100 dead or injured and destruction of numerous houses in Sungai Buloh new village. Royal Commission of Inquiry should have the widest terms of reference to inquire into government negligence in allowing a fireworks factory to operate in a residential area for 17 years with inadequate industrial safety for workers.

DAP welcomes the announcement this afternoon by the Deputy Prime Minister, Ghafar Baba, on the Cabinet decision to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Sungai Buloh fireworks factory blaze which have caused over a 100 dead or injured. Liong Sik should ask the ‘top UMNO leaders’ who had ‘discussed, understood and accepted’ the Malaysian Chinese Cultural City proposal to issue a directive to stop all other UMNO leaders from issuing any more statement before it gets beyond the control of MCA leadership

Liong Sik should ask the ‘top UMNO leaders’ who had ‘discussed, understood and accepted’ the Malaysian Chinese Cultural City proposal to issue a directive to stop all other UMNO leaders from issuing any more statement before it gets beyond the control of MCA leadership.

I had warned the MCA President, Datuk Ling Liong Sik, yesterday that if he does not want the Malaysian Chinese Cultural City controversy to get out of hand, and to put an immediate end to the controversy created by narrow- minded political leaders looking for issues to inflate themselves as ‘communal’ or ‘cultural heroes’, he should formally submit the proposal to the Cabinet tomorrow for official approval and make a public announcement of it.
