DAP calls for the establishment of a National Inter-Religious Council to promote greater understanding and co-operation among the various religions and check religious polarisation.

Information Minister, Tengku Rithaudeen, said yesterday that the Government had accepted the offer of help from the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Sikhism in its efforts to achieve national unity. For the first five months after the Bank Negara freeze on the 23 deposit-taking co-operatives on August 8, 1986, involving $1.5 billion hard-earned savings of 588,000 co-operative depositors, MCA Ministers and leaders showed utter indifference to the plight and sufferings of the depositor.
