After last Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, Cabinet spokesman Datuk Rais Yahim announced that the government is looking into ways of assisting companies that are adversely affected by the present slowdown. Gerakan President, Dr. Lim Keng Yaik, threatened a few days ago that Gerakan would contest the coming general elections under its own symbol if it is not given ‘ a fair deal’ in allocation of seats. DAP to launch nation-wide campaign protest against Ng Yee Kuan, Susie Teoh, Tang Yu Fong cases and to defend basic parental rights over their children at the Malacca DAP Ceramah on Monday, June 2, 1986.

The MCA legal bureau chairman, Datuk Kok Wee kiat, said that the MCA may seek to amend the Constitution to clearly affirm the rights of parents to determine their children’s education and religion up to the age of 18. With the approach of the next general elections, Tung/ Chiau Chung officials who in 1982 mobilised electoral support for the Barisan Nasional seems to have swerved to the other extreme in wanting to mobilize electoral support for PAS and PAS CCC. Has Tan Koon Swan’s $5 million post-dated cheque to Multi-Purpose dated 19th May been cleared?

On 18th May 1986, at the press conference after a dialogue with Koperasi Serbaguna Malaysia (KSM) liaison committee members in Kuala Lumpur on the Multi- Purpose Holdings problems, the MPH spokeman Datuk Oon Seng Lee confirmed that Tan Koon Swan had replied $18 million on May 7, while the balance of $5 million was by the way of a post- dated cheques for 19th May 1986.
